How long can I delete my posts?

Lately, I wanted to clean up my posts because as a newbie I posted sometimes few times in one thread. I just couldn't wait for an answer. In few threads that looks bad for me so I wanted to delete a couple of my older posts.

When I tried to delete them I just couldn't. This is strange because there is no delete or edit button even when the tread is still open and active but not by all of my posts some of them even older I'm indeed able to delete. So, to summarise and clear things up, there are old posts which i can and can't delete.

Anybody can explain this, please?
