Religion will not always provide enlightenment to his life. I have a friend who is very addicted to gambling sites and always makes bets in casinos and slots. For the religion he believes in is not very strong so maybe he will not change his addiction to gambling places anymore through religion. Usually in my country they will provide rehabilitation places so that there will be two goals that must be corrected, the first is Religion or the belief that God exists, Next is to improve the nature of addiction by doing positive activities such as learning to produce something positive so as to improve skills that can be used to earn money and survive to become better than before.

this is where religion is going to control you literally when you join their rehab. while we all want to get out and get our freedom, some people will just love to be handled instead.
 
but in the name of jesus i guess people will like to be influenced by church. when its for the name of god, most people who believe in god will be willing to do all these stuff actually. one thing that comes in their mind is obey.

There are many religions that preaches against gambling because to them, gambling is a sin and should be forbidden by anyone who's truly a believer of those religions. One of those religions that forbids gambling is Christianity because citing from the scriptures, gambling is a sin and shouldn't be practiced by any Christian that's seriously believes in his faith. So if a gambler who wasn't originally a Christian is converted to the religion, the teachings he's going to be getting as a new convert will likely change his mind about gambling which might likely influence his gambling activities thereby leading to total abstinence from any form gambling engagement

Actually religion or church cannot  influencing gambler, what  can influence a gambler to change from gambling is "ENCOUNTER" when the gambler  have an encounter with God, he experienced changes, because problem gambling is a spirit so and encounter with God will take away the Spirit of gambling away.
So to me religion of church cannot influence a gambler but, an encounter with God will cause a change in the life of a gambler. That's my opinion.

Potentially, not every religion forbids gambling. Of course, it all depends on the person's own choice. If he has doubts that he can win, religion can be used as a reason to forbid himself from gambling, but not always.

Religious belief can be a big reason to stop gambling, because some gamblers require a strong reason to stop gambling. If a gambler views gambling as against their religious beliefs, something called sin, they can decide to let go of gambling in order to eliminate the feeling of guilt that they are committing sin, or going against their religious belief.

OP thanks for raising this topic, I have come across an argument before at school some set of people where arguing about how the church can play a key role if stopping addiction. But for me I think stopping betting addiction or gambling addiction all depends mainly on the gambler, I have seen some Pastors who gamble as well, doe if the gambler is willing to stop and he opens up to members of the church they can help him in one or two aspects and by giving him some advice too.

For me, i don't think that religion will change a man or will make him to stop gambling unless if he will submit himself to God and change but it has nothing to do with religion for me. I'm not sure if gambling is prohibited in Muslim religion and have not known any Muslim in my country that gamble but have seen so many Christians that goes to casino or other gambling facilities and gamble.

I'm a man that believes that Religion or Belief can shape any man but it totally depends how dear the religion is to the person and how committed a man is to his religion, and how much impact the religion can make only that man, because for a man to turn away from something that's already part of him. Let's say Christianity for instance, a regular church goer would be more harder to quit gambling because he is a Christian but the case would be difficult someone who is devoted to Christianity.

I have come to realise that it only takes self discipline to stop something if one is ready and willing to take such step of stoping or putting an abrupt end to that addiction.

I have read so many replies with spirituality and lots more. I do not argue with their facts and points raised here but I feel saying this would help because when it comes to ones faith, one must be willing to stop that act of his  before their faith can be activated to receive the encounter or help based on spirituality. Of a truth an encounter with the Holy Spirit can change the life of an addict but before then what is the state of the addicts faith for the encounter. Same is applicable to other religion. You must be prepared for an encounter otherwise you will miss it.

Religion has influenced those who want to be influenced by it and that has been on their  individual decisions or relationships they had with their creator not to be addicted to gambling

There are many people who claim to be a part of a religion but don’t follow the teachings of that religion they are just there for the sake joining a religion nothing more - if they followed the teachings they won’t have entered into gambling in the first place due to the fact that most religions are against gambling. But for those that have are already in gambling and are addicted, If they make it known to their brethren they might be able to find a solution for them but if it’s kept bottled up it might not work.

In fact, if someone has been affected by gambling addiction, religion and faith may be able to help. However, they will also definitely need consultation and treatment from experts directly as one of the sources of assistance. So, sometimes religion has limited it by making that gambling is restricted in religion, but many people violate it, for various reasons. and in the end they become addicted to gambling and lose a lot of money. And they sometimes realize it and regret it. but will it work straight away? Of course not, not all of it overcomes addiction and gambling eagerness. because, many people will definitely prefer to continue doing gabling because they think it is fun, whatever the result.

I agree with you, but that will be someone committed to his religion, and he has decided to let go with things of the world and to follow God with all his heart. Yes if such person gambles, he will give it up for his religion. Most religions are against gambling, because they know that it is hard to gamble responsible. A friend of mine stopped all what we do together as goods friends, when he decided to be very religious, he stopped gambling, drinking, and clubbing.

Yes and no. Some people that came from a religious family may sometimes realize that what they did was wrong because based on my observation I can see gamblers going to church here in my place and that might be a way for them to stop. No because some of them are not that religious or even forget their religion when gambling I knew some of them even if it was forbidden but they keep on doing it especially casino and other form of gambling activities. It will really depends on someones decision whether they have to stop or not especially gambling addicts who has a deeper relation to gambling.

Yes religion can free a gambling addict from his gambling addiction. Many may disagree with my opinion here but I agree that gambling if a true man follows the path of religion then he can definitely forget gambling. First of all, I am a Muslim. If people can follow and follow the path of my religion then they will be able to give up bad deeds. I don't know what will happen in unique religion but from my religion I say that one can definitely be free from addiction. Because Islam is a religion of peace, if people surrender, they will forget everything and follow the path of religion. I have seen some gamblers around us who once gambled and fell into a situation from which it was impossible to return but they came to the path of religion and did good deeds and now they always talk about good deeds and do not want to hear about gambling. If one does not believe that religion can make people good then he should follow the path of religion for 20 to 40 days.
