With the current ETH price, a transaction can cost 0.60$ easy, that's not nothing when you are sending few tokens or sending to a lot of people.
The best way to lower the gas price, in simple transaction try 3-4 Gwei. If it fails to send you will not lose a thing, then go up till transaction succeeds.
admin edit: you can try even with 1-2 Gwei

I always do that, but use meta mask to tell me if it will pass or not without sending the transaction first

Good information, it ultimately takes extra time just to do this, but for the savings we should at least do. just sometimes loading is needed like to take a long time.

I've sent quiet a few of them with only 1 gwei

you can setting a gas price to 1 gwei
and set gas amount to 2000-20000
its more cheap than a default settings

I've never knew 1 gwei can send eth!? Is that really possible? But nowadays gas are not really expensive either.

Always adjust your gas price to lower to avoid high transaction fees

it depends on the amount you're sending right? if it's a low amount 1 gwei and default of 21000 gas usually does the trick if sending small amounts (e.g. 0.001eth). found that out while sending small amounts to airdrops.

nice tips? by the way what is minimum gwei i can set? i've try to send token with just 1 gwei 21k gas limit and it success. curious to know if i can set it to 0.5 or 0.1 gwei

At me the purse independently defines the size of the commission for transaction. But in comparison with bitcoit, this is a small commission

for sending tokens you can set to 0.1 gwei, that's half a cent now

If you compare the commission for transactions when sending bitcoin and the commission of ETH, then the commission of ETH is much less.

It will depend a lot on the token you are sending, it will automatically generate a specific Gas in the transition itself.
