28.6% More Efficiency in Bitcoin Mining – Bitmain Launches Next Generation 7nm ASIC Chip for SHA256 Mining

Bitmain was founded in 2013 and since then it continues to transform computing by developing industry-defining technology. The company focuses on the blockchain, cryptocurrency, and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. On February 18, 2019, Bitmain Technologies Limited launched its next-generation 7nm ASIC chip, BM1397.

The new chip integrates new chip design methodology together with a top-notch 7nm semiconductor manufacturing process. BM1397 achieves new feat in performance. Also, the enhanced chip area and energy efficiency enables faster and cheaper mining for cryptos like Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and Bitcoin (BTC) that make use of the SHA256 algorithm for their Proof of Work (PoW).

28.6% Improvement in Power Consumption Efficiency

The new chip needs lower power to operate and can deliver an energy consumption to computing ratio of as low as 30J/TH. The data represents a 28.6% improvement in power consumption efficiency compared to Bitmain’s previous 7nm chip, dubbed the BM1391. The Bitmain engineering team has extensively customized the new chip design to optimize its circuit, architecture, and economics. The chip is made entirely using TSMC’s 7nm FinFET process.

The BM1397 project is a major indicator of Bitmain’s progress in chip design methodology. Also, the success of the project reveals that the Bitmain team has a deep understanding of the most advanced semiconductor fabrication technologies.

The announcement follows Bitmain’s on-going commitment to the improvement and manufacture of high-performance computing chips. It is also in line with the company’s goals of trying to enhance the whole cryptocurrency ecosystem. Most of the Bitmain innovations are meticulously designed to let everyone mine and benefit from cryptocurrencies irrespective of their location.

The BMI1397 becomes a part of Bitmain’s progressively growing chip portfolio. It is well designed to offer an excellent mining experience while simultaneously setting a new benchmark in the ASIC chip technology space. The chip will be used in the manufacture of the new Antminer models the S17 and T17 which the company will unveil at a later date.

Bitmain operates the biggest cryptocurrency mining pools worldwide namely BTC.com and Antpool.com. The company’s technology also supports many blockchain start-ups and platforms.
