Bitcoin Forum / Newbies to Bitcoin can be dangerous
« on: August 15, 2018, 12:35:14 AM »
I have run into several Bitcoin "newbies" over the last couple of months, that are spreading the wrong information on forums and/or in person. Their intentions is good, but the results is bad, because they did not do proper research.

Some of these people are selling themselves as experts, because they have been in the scene for a few months. I have been in the scene for years and I still know very little about EVERY aspect of this technology.

I think you should rather admit it, when you do not know something about the technology, than selling your little knowledge as facts. I will regularly tell people that I am not clued up with every aspect of this technology, but I always try to do proper research, when I encounter something that I am not 100% clued up on.

~ Ask if you not sure.
~ Do not lie if you are unsure.
~ Do proper research before you educate other people.
~ Accept that you will not know it all.
~ Fact check what you already know.
~ Do not argue if you not sure about your facts.

Let's agree that we all learn something new about this great technology almost every day, so only a small amount of us are experts.

Bitcoin Forum / Be careful of stupid investors
« on: August 13, 2018, 01:10:07 AM »
The full article is linked to below, an excellent read if you have the time.

The short concluding parts:

Following the “herd,” has always ended badly for investors. In every full-market cycle, there is an inevitable belief “this time is different” for one reason or another.
It isn’t. It has never been. And this time will not be different either.

However, what has always separated out the great investors from everyone else, is they have acted independently of the “herd.” They have a discipline, a strategy and a driving will to succeed.

They don’t “buy and hold.” They buy cheap and sell expensive. They avoid losses at all costs and they deeply understand the relationship of risk to reward.

They are the “non-stupid.”

These are the ones you want to follow.

Not the ones screaming at you on altcoinstalks telling you to “buy, buy, buy.”

« on: August 13, 2018, 01:03:25 AM »
I came across this article
https://www.financemagnates.com/thought-leadership/ico-will-fail-2018/

And wanted to know if you agree -- are these the reasons why ICOs will fail in 2018?
What type of PR strategies do you look for in an ICO? What types of things create the most buzz? What things are old news?

Thoughts?

Cryptocurrency discussions / Learning Day Trading
« on: August 13, 2018, 01:00:58 AM »
Someone introduced me to Voodoo day trading community where I found perfect atmosphere to learn day trading and technical analysis:  https://discord.gg/yBmNzRm I have spent last whole week in the free channel in the group and learnt some interesting tricks and earned a decent amount of money.

But it feels like to reach the next level, I have to join paid channel. I wanted to ask that is it worth to pay for learning day trading or I could found free stuff instead? This forum has been a great help to me in past. I hope I will get some valuable feedback this time too.

Cryptocurrency discussions / KYC in crypto, does it really require?
« on: August 13, 2018, 12:53:13 AM »
Do we really need to submit our personal details to ICOs for buying the token or for participating in its bounty and airdrop?
I always wonder why do we need to give our vital info to ICOs that most are not even likely to come on in crypto space and crypto is all about decentralization but submitting our info has made it look centralized to me.
There is no regulation in crypto yet so why should we give our details to unknow ico organizers, so claim to prevent some region in participating in the ico because of the country law but those ICOs comes from the same region and country that prevent their own citizen from participating, should we say they are using style to rob us or our details is being used for other purposes.
I think it's high time we all need to stop giving our details to ICOs if really the crypto is all about decentralized and there is no regulation in the world yet to really require such details, I will like to know everyone minds about the submission of our details in term of KYC.

Bitcoin Forum / Can the Most Powerful Computer on Earth Hack Bitcoin?
« on: August 12, 2018, 12:06:33 AM »
Let me avoid the technical aspects to make things easy for all readers.

So someone said that America's NSA has this great computer(quantum computer) that could easily hack Bitcoin private keys. I really doubt his claim but I know for sure that certain computers like the most powerful Super Computers are within the reach of some of this Intelligence organizations.
Do you think such computers can crack any security codes put in place to make Bitcoin very secure?

Hello,

I've been following bitcoin and altcoins for a bit now but was off since last year for a personal reason.

Now, I would like to launch a "miniBank" business and I was wondering if ICO is the right tool for that. The idea is to run a mobile banking service (which are popular in emerging markets) through blockchain features. The initial phase will require around 500 000 USD.

Here is a list of services that will be provided by the miniBank :
- multi crypto-currency account pegged to EUR or USD
- VISA/MASTERCARD debit card linked to EUR or USD balance
- Mobile payment in several Emerging Market Countries
- Automated loans
- Transfer/Remittance from Europe to Emerging Market Countries

The presale and after the ICO will grant initial investor with token that will allow them to have :
- a perpetual fixed income on the miniBank (interest rate tbd).
- a share of the miniBank or the cryptocurrency that will be used for mobile payment, loans...

Do you think that pre sale can be use to fund part of the initial phase ? And what are the steps that I should follow to have a successful pre-sale ?

PS: I worked in Investment Banking and I'm quite knowledgeable in term of coding and system architecture so I have a proper understanding of both.

In Decentralized Exchange, the user can control their own fund. It is fast, effective and anonymous with no personal documents required to apply.
It has higher security because it will prevent hacking and downtime. However, it's not for beginners because it's not easy to use. And ICO investors treat it as dumping area of coins when it is first listed in a decentralized exchange. (IDEX, EtherDelta, etc.) That is the reason why some ICO developers locked the tokens before listing in centralized exchange to prevent that from happening.

Centralized exchange means it is centralized. It's easy to use and accessible. (Binance, Coinbase, etc.) However, when you use centralized exchanges you always have a big risk for your funds because of hacking attacks. And a lot of people lost their cryptocurrencies and bitcoins due to this.

Which would you choose?

Cryptocurrency discussions / Learn from your mistakes!!!!!
« on: August 11, 2018, 11:24:47 PM »
Every mistake has its lessons. When you make a mistake, there are three things you should do: admit it, learn from it and do not repeat it.
Ever since I had been in this space, I have only been used to bitcoin, ethereum, NEO, waves, tokens that use their platform and some other very common coins, but just this week was my first time of transacting fully on XLM platform.
I got a token that uses the platform of Stellar (XLM) and I was able to trade the token into XLM on their decentralized exchange.
My mistake came in when I was about to transfer the XLM, to be traded into BTC on another exchange.
I thought the process of transfer would be the one I had been used to, not knowing that I was supposed to include a "MEMO".
I eventually transferred it, waited for an hour, but found nothing.
I was bothered.
It was in that process I got to know that memo was to be included. That was my mistake.
I admitted I had made the mistake.
The lesson I learnt is to always study everything first (both new and old, because old things can still change), before jumping into it.
This mistake I have made up my mind to never repeat again.

I AM SHARING THIS FOR YOU TO LEARN FROM MY MISTAKES AND FROM YOURS.

Bitcoin Forum / What do you want to Buy with Bitcoin?
« on: August 10, 2018, 12:45:14 AM »
Reading a lot of New Year Resolutions, and I can understand many of you here have some resolutions that involve crypto and bitcoin. Maybe you want to earn a bitcoin, multiply your bitcoins or become a crypto millionaire.

So here is one similar question that does not necessarily has to be achieved in this year.

What are the things you want to buy with bitcoin?
Whether it's a House, your favourite car, a yacht, a jet or a ticket to Mars. Whatever you dream, list the things you want to buy with your bitcoins (crypto).

What's preventing Bitcoins from being accepted as mainstream payment forms? I'm working on a new blockchain and would like to learn what drawbacks of Bitcoin urgently need to be improved ;)

Cryptocurrency discussions / Be careful with Pumps channels
« on: August 10, 2018, 12:41:39 AM »
Some of you may have noticed this, That there are certain individuals who deliberately create a kind of pump channel in Telegram, Whatsapp etc. which aims to help people earn profit but the reality is very different.

I have tried to follow the pump channel and want to see what the channel activity looks like. Before the pump to a certain coin, will appear such a channel announcement, the time of pump, type of pump, target pump and coin to be in the pump is still a secret. It aims for channel members to prepare some money to buy. After the coin announced, the pump drama also starts with a target percentage.

the buying wall is starting to look, and the channel members are busy putting up buy orders on top of the created wall and when the target is reached, the buying wall is released and changes to the selling process which causes the price to come back down.

The question is:
- does this channel only use members to help pump prices?
- If they target a 15% increase, would they sell it when the target is reached?
- Is there any guarantee that they do not make a purchase of the coins to be collected first before announcing it.
