It depends on how screwed he is if the market collapses.  It really could pay off big, but he is possibly risking homelessness if it doesn't work out.  That's not really a great plan in my opinion, as it's going to be nearly impossible to keep your emotions out of the equation.  He could lose 20% of his investment and panic sell and be infinitely worse off.  If he's disciplined, and can wait as long as he needs to for the market to recover, then I'd say it's not a completely horrible idea.  I wouldn't do it, but I'm not even remotely desperate to become mega rich.

My own point of view selling house for bitcoin is not a good decision. Think it wisely , instead boost more houses and resources. There are a lot of people who doesn't have thier own house.  Make some ways to own a bitcoin but dont sell your house .

I think it's excessive selling a house just to buy bitcoin and alcoin, but better work first or nabung first new money buy bitcoin because the price can rise and time can also fall .

we can't blame your friend for seling him/her house just for investing in bitcoin for future maybe he/she have many house. but for me that's bad idea  its too risky we don't know what happens next in market cycle.
