Title: MEW DNS get hacked
Post by: Pandu Kelana on April 24, 2018, 05:06:52 PM
Today I have some warning from my friend about MEW.
They told me that MEW DNS was hacked by someone. And hacker address is 0x1d50588c0aa11959a5c28831ce3dc5f1d3120d29

You can see post comments about this address at https://etherscan.io/address/0x1d50588c0aa11959a5c28831ce3dc5f1d3120d29#comments

Additionally, an announcement from MEW official twitter https://twitter.com/myetherwallet/status/988787116015415296

I suggest you don't use any MEW transaction until this problem is solved.

Keep our community safe and protect them from scamming/pissing/hacking action.

Was just reading about this, emphasizes the importance once again of checking every time you visit a site. Seems that if the people hacked had checked the ssl certificate, they would have realised that they had been directed to the wrong site. Hackers and phishers will always be after 'our' money, have to be constantly on guard and check every little detail to expose ourselves to as little risk as possible. Looks like it has been resolved now anyway, but another reality check for the crypto community, we are still a long way from mass adoption. Situations like this create and amplify the FUD bus, subsequently scaring off new investors. On the upside, it is a reminder on the need for investors to take responsibility for their funds and check/double check/triple check each and every little thing. Stay safe.

This is why I've always said MEW is not safe to use, it's a website. Lots of people don't listen to good advise though  ::)
Use a hardware wallet if you can, or Mist/MetaMask alternatively with good passwords.

Not yet, MEW dev still work on it.
The issue is not finished yet. But the cause of this issue has already been found.
Some users who use google DNS are vulnerable to this phishing.

And this is not a FUD, because this has happened. You must give the community a safe side by giving warnings and keeping them away from scam/phishing/ criminal.
They should thank you for that

Because this is one of the reasons a forum and community are formed.

You should understand about:
- Give warning to investors
- Give fear and or scare to investors

Agree with this, but it is not solved the problems.
Most of them still using it. They think MEW is easy touch, friendly to use and FREE. Need ones more time for them to learn about it.
