Worldcoin is a fraud from the beginning of that project. This remind me of On my way! Project called studentcoin, today the project is clearly a hype that stolen not only users funds but stolen many student kyc across the globe just for some wasted project, the token has no volume and almost delisted in all over the centralized exchanges.

Worldcoin is only a matter of time but to me they are not different, if Bitcoin is strictly based on decentralization without KYC and people's information and yet it has grown to this level, then the government has every right to suspend their operations. Who knows if they are going to sell these data and information when they go broke.

In that matter, we can't do anything if that's what the country of Spain did because they have the power to do that anyway. And any country can do that. Now the only thing I see there is why Spain did that: they saw a hole in the worldcoin that violated the aspirations that the country of Spain has.

Also, worldcoin is also far from bitcoin, and most communities in this field of the crypto industry know that. Also, I didn't pay attention to worldcoin because there are many other cryptos that are better than worldcoin, to be honest.

I am not surprised, and if this has happened in Spain it probably should happen at the European Union level, as countries must apply REGULATION (EU) 2016/679 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 27 April 2016. Although I am not an expert on this subject and I do not know what each country's approach to this particular issue might be.

I was horrified when I saw the news that there were a lot of people queuing up because they were being paid I think 100 euros in that cryptocurrency. You have to see how people are capable of selling the most intimate part of their privacy very cheaply.

Yeah people are over-greedy even in rich Western countries. It is just crazy to sell your private info and data for 100 EUR in my opinion. I know some people are poor everywhere, I was myself not rich being born in a Western country, but I would more understand someone with a third world country cost-of-life selling his data for this price than a Spanish guy doing the same..

With the MiCA law incoming, I think we will see more and more shady platforms and projects being prohibited in EU.

Worldcoin is only a matter of time but to me they are not different, if Bitcoin is strictly based on decentralization without KYC and people's information and yet it has grown to this level, then the government has every right to suspend their operations. Who knows if they are going to sell these data and information when they go broke.

They should not be allowed to operate without regulation because every government has its laws when it comes to privacy their KYC procedures should be properly explained and the government has all the rights to know how they do their KYC and how to safeguard this information.
Personal or sensitive information should not be sent to unregulated platforms there is such a thing as an underground market where scammers sell sensitive information that hackers are using to scam people.

In the current state where we are now where data can be mined and commercialized, a platform that is collecting data must make sure it is following the laws and regulations of the land. I think this is something that Worldcoin has to resolved if it has the plan of smooth operation. You mentioned Studentcoin and I understand the comparison...let's hope that Worldcoin will not go the path taken by the former. We are now in the era of decentralization and if a platform seems to have a feature opposing that idea then it must explain things well and let's see if it can pass with flying colors.

I was horrified when I saw the news that there were a lot of people queuing up because they were being paid I think 100 euros in that cryptocurrency. You have to see how people are capable of selling the most intimate part of their privacy very cheaply.

Unfortunately, it is much less than 100 euros
According to this article, it turns out that they obtained only 25 tokens of the currency, which is equivalent to about $75!!! very cheap!!!
Quote
At a crypto conference in Tokyo, people on Tuesday queued in front of a gleaming silver globe flanked by placards stating: "Orbs are here." Applicants lined up to have their irises scanned by the device, before waiting for the 25 free Worldcoin tokens the company says verified users can claim.
Users told Reuters they weighed concerns over data collection against their curiosity about the project, which says it has issued IDs for more than two million people in 120 countries, mostly during a trial period in the last two years
https://www.reuters.com/technology/verified-human-worldcoin-users-queue-up-iris-scans-2023-07-25/

This is very strange indeed, especially since it happens in countries that are not poor. We do not know what causes people’s rush to sell their privacy for money. Is it the need for money or ignorance of the danger of selling private information to companies to trade it?

Well, I wouldn't say it makes much difference. In percentage terms it is, because as of today $75 is 68.5 euros, but the difference between 100 and 68.5 still doesn't matter to me. It's a level of money at which I don't even think about selling my privacy under any circumstances.

I was sure I had seen in the news that it was 100 euros, here for example you have one:

«Mi hijo vendió su iris por 100 euros»: España sigue en alerta por Worldcoin

But as this is news from 19 February, perhaps the difference is due to the fluctuation in the price of the token.

Yeah people are over-greedy even in rich Western countries. It is just crazy to sell your private info and data for 100 EUR in my opinion. I know some people are poor everywhere, I was myself not rich being born in a Western country, but I would more understand someone with a third world country cost-of-life selling his data for this price than a Spanish guy doing the same.
I do not think it is about the price, but rather a lack of awareness about the importance of personal data or the feeling that it is not worth much, especially since it is requested when you open a bank account, create a commercial register for a company, obtain a data card, and sometimes even a fuel card.

$25 represents nothing in my country. However, I find some people provide a copy of their passport for these services, but as awareness increases, many will avoid such services.

It's good to see Spain take action quickly, while many other country still perform investigation. In addition of false claim of being privacy friendly, their coin don't have much uniqueness compared with other cryptocurrency out there.

But as this is news from 19 February, perhaps the difference is due to the fluctuation in the price of the token.

And i expect that news use price before 19 Feb, since WLD price on that day is about $7.3.

If I see a name of a project like that, my instinct would automatically tell me to look the other way ;D

It's just sad that many people still do not value their privacy and give it out for a few dollars that easily. Eye scanning is on a level above what certain politicians in our country do (soliciting signatures from the poor people in exchange for cash incentives).

I understand you, of course, it's not about the price, but I wanted to say that they are willing to give up their privacy for much less than 100 euros. Of course the price doesn't matter at all.

What surprised me in particular was that this happened in some rich developed countries such as Japan, Spain, and others as well. It is not surprising that it happens in poor countries where the population is poor and in need of money and also does not have sufficient awareness, but for it to happen in developed countries is truly puzzling.

I heard comments from some of those who participated, some of whom said that they were not afraid of their privacy and others said that they loved cryptocurrencies and were willing to try anything. Another person from India said to his friend, “Let’s get some free money.” :-X

I have seen Worldcoin people scanning eyes in many shopping malls, they even asked me if I wanted to do it, my answer was a firm no. People, as a general rule, give away their privacy, you just have to look at what Google or Meta do, for example. In the case of Worldcoin it is the same, in exchange for a few dollars they scan your iris, and tell people that this data will be deleted, what they do not say is that they keep the hashes that can be used to compare future scans.

The reason why people do this is always the same, for money, ignorance of technology and, some, for having cryptocurrencies even knowing what they do. What Worldcoin users do is pay a very expensive price.
