The best wallet would be a Hardware wallet no other alternative. However, if you are looking for free wallet then you can go for MEW or you can go for the mobile wallet app "Coinomi"  and create a new ether wallet.

I think that Myetherwallet is the best wallet for ETH. All my friends uses MEW and i haven't heard any one of them complain of having problems with it. And they were using MEW for years now. We only have to secure the private key in order to be safe.

From my experience there are two most safe Ethereum wallets:
● MyEtherWallet (MEW)
● Metamask, browser addon
I prefer MEW, as for me it's very simple to use.
Just need to bookmark MyEtherWallet site and always access it from your bookmarked link, to avoid phishing.

Remember that other applications and sites can access your Clipboard!
So make sure that all of them closed when you copy/paste your private key.

I agree with you, this is the best purse, if you do not plan to keep large sums of money on it. It interacts directly with the blockchain Ethereum and does not have intermediaries as organizations and servers. The main thing is to save the private keys by writing them down on several paper sheets and hide them in different places. And do not store them as a *txt file on your computer's desktop otherwise your money can be stolen.

I would have love metamask but the fact that you can't use or access it using mobile or phone browser pain me the most, MEW is good but someone needs to be extremely careful when accessing his wallet. You can also use MCW, but very soon accessing your wallet using keystore file or private key will be disabled very soon, then you could make use of parity signer mobile app, just being security conscious anyways.
