HODLing Altcoins

We all are aware of the higher risk involved in trading than HODLing and it has always been advisable to HODL rather than trade especially to Beginners. Just few days after new year this happened :Market dip hit crypto traders with over $650 million in long liquidations last week. This gives more reasons to avoid trading especially for beginners, since traders may usually fall into pump and dump Schemes and trading especially when trading Altcoins. Its advisable to HODL but the reason I made this post is about from the fact that, we know the surety of HODLing bitcoin, it can be HODL for over a decade but this is not true for most altcoins. Though I have 2 altcoins I can advice anyone to HODL which are Solona and Ethereum while I may have surety of HODLing altcoins for at most 2 years maybe with an exception of Ethereum which I may HODL longer.
I know there are other altcoins worth HODLing but I guess my knowledge is quite vague about investing and HODLing altcoins and so I will like to ask the questions.

How do you know an altcoin will be good for HODLing?

Mostly, I analyze the fundamentals of the altcoins. I only invest in the altcoins that have strong fundamentals. And I usually choose the top 50 altcoins for my long term holding. I rarely invest in new altcoins because most new altcoins aren't trustable. Many of them are scams and failed projects.

How many years if surety do you have in HODLing altcoins and which altcoins are you currently HODLing?

I usually hold for 4 years. It is because we have 4 years cycle of bullish-bearish. I buy the crypto coins during the bearish season, then I will take profits in the bullrun/bullish season. I repeat my investment every 4 years, I think this is the safe target to take in the crypto assets.

Indeed, for beginners, it is better to just hold because trading has a higher risk than loading, especially if you do future trading. Unless we already have sufficient understanding and competent risk management. This is to avoid all risks of losing money quickly in the crypto business. because trading is not an easy thing, it is full of complications.

1. If for holding, it would be better to choose the main coin, namely Bitcoin. As for altcoins, choose at least top coins, which have strong fundamentals, a professional team, a high market cap, and an ongoing project, at least this will be safer than with hype coins. for example, we can hold ETH, MATIC, ADA, BNB, XRP, SOL, and other top coins.

Stay away from hype coins kr wjatever new coins that only based on its viral and have no further agenda.

I know that hodling have no liquidations, and it's far better than trading in terms of risk, but I think buying a coin without enough knowledge to hodl is not a good idea since there are lot of investors who put their investments into sleep because the price went below their buying price, and it's true to year 2021. Lot of investors who bought at the peak where they thought that price will continue to increase, but the price went in the opposite direction. So if you have enough knowledge, you could minimize the risks of being one of them.

True that trading have more risk compare to that of holding. Like a day back just because of the ETF news alot of people experience liquidation due to the pump and dump, traders STL (stop loss) where even triggered causing them to sell in losses.
But most of us that where holding didn't even bother selling ours we just keep holding because we no that after experiencing a dump it surely experience a pumb again.
Before hold most altcoins I actually do some deep researches first,  because most altcoins are being use as scamming project mostly new coins. That why I love holding the main altcoins. To be honest don't actually have a fixed duration in holding coins just sell when I feel like, or depending to the coin performance. But most time holding long is the best though.

True I guess the top 50 really minimise every risk since they have built trust and have a utility value.

indeed buying in the bear and selling in bull using the 4 year span I guess this actually works well but I bet this would work much better with DCA especially since most coins hit significant dip in the mid of the 4 year

Aren't you wrong in saying this compared to altcoins and bitcoin? While you say with utility many altcoins will last a long time? Try analyzing again how many altcoins fail, even though they have a lot of utility, it doesn't guarantee that when the founder wants to run away and throw away all the tokens, it will be a failed project, not all altcoins can last long, I don't believe that, except Bitcoin, one of them will survive. long with high capital.

If we talk about altcoins then it's just a guess not something that there are precise indicators to be able to judge which altcoins are worth holding, because if we look at ETH, BNB or some other altcoins that are currently stable but at the beginning, they were all in doubt in the minds of investors and when investors continue to hold them it is just a form of speculation.
As for how long it depends on how well it is developed and also what altcoins you hold, those that are already stable are worth holding for the long term but new altcoins are not very feasible for the long term.

First, I will choose an altcoin to hold based on the background of the owner and creator of the altcoin and based on the partners and large investors who are behind the project that I hold. And most importantly, we can see positive ecosystem development in the altcoin project that we held at that time. Examples of altcoins that I hold are layer 1 (ETH, AVAX and others) and AI category Altcoins (AGIX and others).

I'll probably hold onto the altcoins I've accumulated until the bullrun really gets very high. That is, when people start FOMO, that's when maybe I will sell the altcoins that I have collected.

Try analyzing the coin that will be HODLed, especially from its background. If that makes you confident, then choose that altcoin, but it will still be a risk if you don't choose the right altcoin.
Continuously, many people HODL on altcoins with large capital, for example ETH and BNB, so this is still worth HODLing. Once again, this project is never in doubt because it has a strong community.

Don't HODL altcoins for too long, if the profit is enough for you then just let go of ownership of the altcoin, because I'm not really sure if you HODL for too long it will actually have a bad impact in the future.

I held xym for 2 years and it never recovered in the bull run. Even if the project has potential, utility or strong team buying and holding when the price has risen or during its release its risky. Buy and hold a good altcoin when the price is under valued.
For your question
1. There are lots of indicators individuals use like the market share, community, team , utility , total supply and not excluding how good is their advertisement. A coin whose utility can be used frequently would have a higher chance of survival than one people barely make use of.
2. Its subjective. Holding doesnt have specified time frame. It all depends on what your goal is. Personally i would say buying after Bitcoin halving correction and selling after its peak thats the highest i can go for an altcoin. But i prefer selling in the form of DCA after different profit but always making sure there remain some on my portfolio.
Like trading holding is risky. FTT despite its strength still fell. Dont buy a dip that arised from a flaw of a coin foundation/fundamentals.

If you hold cryptocurrency or Bitcoin, you should know how to research a potential coin in this crypto business. First of all, look at its tokenomics, or check coinecko or coinmarketcap, so we can see how many daily volumes and marketcaps it has and if there is a history of previous bull runs.

And if you can see that this is a low cap, you can take a risk as long as the volume trade is good every day. Also,  look at its updates on social media, and the demand for coins is a lot. Anyway, we can say that it can give you a good profit in the future, even in the short-term and even in the long-term. But, of course, you still have to do it.

As for me, I even see trading more safe than holding for anybody, this is not even on beginners alone, you can't keep on with the use of altcoins always and be trading them without avoiding some level of risk unlike when you are holding which is more dangerous to because you don't know what may comes out of the coin, you can keep holding for long without the coin performing well and at the cause, it may also get down and fail, but trading could always only include a short period of holding before trading any coin.

1. TBH, none of the altcoins are good for HODLing, because altcoins is made according to the current trend, for example back in 2021 it was NFTs, then in 2022 it was metaverse, and at the end of 2023 the trend of AI started now it is the trend of L2 and L3 projects. These trends overtake the potential of previous trends which is bad for us (investors, yeah we are investors because we are investing for the long term). So, in short, I won't do holding in altcoins with the thought that they could give me more or equal results that BTC can give me.

2. I am currently holding none, and the time to hold a coin should not be fixed, like even for BTC as well, if you think now is the good time to book some profit then we should not hesitate to do so, because booking profit at least make us confident about our decisions and we can also retake an entry at some good point later in time.
