Hacked wallets
« on: August 23, 2022, 10:00:48 PM »
Guys I need help. I used my wallets to stake tokens and provide liquidity on Crystl Finance on the BSC. Just found out the wallet has been drained. The hacker withdrew my tokens and sold them off. Same with my other wallet on Metamask. My question is how s/he got hold of my private keys, because I didn't give it to anyone and I didn't love into any suspicious sites

My friend also lost $200 usd in his Trust wallet, because of some phishing attacks, you can see the article about the phishing attack here, how hackers can take the funds.

Cybercriminals are constantly improving their infection methods by finding new user vulnerabilities or application security vulnerabilities.  To reduce the risk of your virtual funds being stolen and to help protect your crypto wallets, ESET recommends that you follow basic rules for storing personal data.

Yes I store it on my phone but via cloud storage. I thought writing on paper is tedious since you have to get the alphabets and figures right. Any tiny mistake in case renders your private keys invalid. Do you have any other option for storing private keys and mnemonics

You must have a home printer that does not connect to the Internet.  this way you will be able to publish any information on paper that will not have any connection with the Internet.  that is, you will have a secure way to publish secret data in paper form.

There are many such websites and applications nowadays. Which records your data. That's why hacking wallets has become easy for cybercriminals. Friend, you should use hardwallet to protect your data and deposits. And do not keep your key or seed phase in any computer device and write it in your hand made notes.

So sorry to hear this. Look carefully, there must be a way you let yourself got compromised. It pains me to see people fall victim of such in this space as it sends a very negative message to especially the mainstream sector.

I can't say how hackers access your keys. Sad to hear that but you need to be more cautious. Hackers are very expert nowadays our one mistake leads to a huge loss. As you said you never shared your private keys but the thing is hacker access your private keys that's why he/she stole your all coins. I suggest you use Hardware wallets that are quite safe because unless you connect your hardware device to the computer or approve the transaction nobody can transfer your coins without your approval.

I believe that it is not worth the period to upload your knowledge, because many who lost their funds considered themselves very smart and ignored the Elementary Rules.

I think your wallet is still connected to the dex or swap platform which is a scam. do you use dex or platform swap a lot lately? I hope you are always careful before transacting

The trouble with this kind of method is reproducing the passphrase or mnemonics. You would have to copy each letter or numeral down from the photocopied print, wouldn't you? That's serious work. Maybe there is another way. Which methods do we use

Definitely, a reserve of secret keys should be written on paper and kept in a safe place. This is the most secure way to store private keys. Cloud storages are also unreliable, especially if they are in the form of separate applications. I previously used cloud storage for this and my wallets were hacked.
You also need to take into account that Google account passwords are hacked, so all the keys that are stored in the account can also become known to the hacker. This is a very common way to enter our secret data.

My question is how s/he got hold of my private keys, because I didn't give it to anyone and I didn't love into any suspicious sites
Other than the compromised private key, signing carelessly can potentially lead to problems as well. You don't just sign in with Metamask on an unknown or less reputable website. This attack is called token permission/approval attack: https://consensys.net/blog/metamask/the-seal-of-approval-know-what-youre-consenting-to-with-permissions-and-approvals-in-metamask/

There are cases where people try to scramble the phrases by randomizing one of the words that can access a wallet. As we know, the average wallet pharse uses a phrase code with words, there are as many as 12 words and there are also 24 words. maybe your case could happen to this incident. The solution that I provide, it is better if the wallet key is better to use a private key, because it can be said that the private key code is very difficult to solve.
