The Ethereum network is considered as the heir apparent of Bitcoin just because it is the number two and just like in Miss Universe beauty pageant just in case something wrong can happen - like being killed in action or just gone missing for any reason - then the next in line will be taking over. Now, having said that, Ethereum can never be Bitcoin and vice versa. They are two different type of a blockchain platforms and they got many features that each don't have for similarity. Can Ethereum overtake Bitcoin? Maybe yes maybe no let's wait what can happen in the future and if we can't wait for that then let's hire someone with a crystal ball - just kidding!

I think yes, ETH is the next coin after Bitcoin for sure. There are no other altcoins to overtake ETH so far. We only have ETH as the candidate of the coin after Bitcoin. Although ETH has a big problem with gas issue, I think the investors won't leave ETH. Seems they already got the solution with the expensive gas fees in Ethereum chain. you are right that ethereum to date in CMC / CG is the second coin after bitcoin, where if you look at the market capitalization it is clear that there is still no one that can compete with the two coins. even the bnb that did surprise last year hasn't even been able to get close to ethereum, and it's not possible with other coins. these two coins will be in control of the trade for a long time and it will likely be difficult for anyone to replace them without a surprise that can shift them, even if it seems impossible.
but if ethereum will replace bitcoin, of course, it is certainly very unlikely to happen with the current market capitalization difference, it is clear that it is unlikely to happen in the future though.

ETH is the top coin and may be this coin will replace the Bitcoin but this is not possible because there is a big difference in their price BTC is on $21,000 and the eth is on $1200 but may be in the future it will replace and the ETH is the top coin in the crypto market.

Yes, Ethereum is the next Bitcoin. I mean, Bitcoin is the best cryptocurrency and Ethereum is the best altcoin. But, does it take over Bitcoin? The answer is NO
Because Bitcoin will never be replaced by anything else. Other cryptos may be very promising and worthy, but it cannot replace Bitcoin position

If we look at the current situation, BTC is irreplaceable. But it doesn't mean ETH has no chance to overtake BTC. I personally think that ETH has the chance to overtake BTC, but we don't know when it is. I don't say it is a must, it may not overtake BTC if BTC is always the favorite coin and survive as the main coin.

popularity, obviously I think that until now no one has been able to compete with bitcoin, because if everyone talks about crypto they will always think that there is only bitcoin even though there are many coins available but all who don't understand will think it's only bitcoin.

Personally, I believe with the pace and structure to which Ethereum is moving, I most certainly won't be surprised to how far it can achieve, probably much better than bitcoin itself. Alts are gaining stronger foundation. For example, Trofi is a project I came across recently and I must admit, the level of its growth is highly impressive. That is what we get to see in alts as time goes on.

With the forthcoming merge of Ethereum..it will definitely impact the tokenomics..I'm thinking it might hit up to $10,000 within the next three years. I Just bought some in my Trofi Wallet to hold and stake to be earning before then. Ethereum shouldn't be taken for granted as some are regretting with Bitcoin now
