I don't think its possible to ensure anything when it comes to crypto.  If it's a sure thing than there is no limit to how much one is willing to invest, that is not recommended with crypto.  Many coins are much lower than their highs right now, but it might take years for some to grow significantly, or it can be over nite.

Take a look for those coins that have been existing for a time and those coins were able to survive the bear market because most probably when the bull market comes, they would still be the coins that will go up. There may be some coins that are so cheap nowadays but then if you are still doubtful about it and the team is not that active and look for another coin. Choose a coin that is already used by people for its actual use case like bitcoin, ethereum and binance coin.

BITCOIN (it's still the king and most safe crypto)
ETHEREUM (it's the blockchain with more project that uses it and I'm sure will be back in price soon)
Ripple (it's preferred by banks and financial institutions)
ADA CARDANO, EOS, Stellar Lumens : these 3 are the new coins that want to become ETH competitors.
At least 1 privacy coin like Zcash, Verge or Monero.
