Dash was probably created as Bitcoins "friend" so it wouldn't be all alone out there , that is to be traded vs BItcoin also in the early days the technology was much less advanced and there were worries about throughput and what happens if to many people want to conduct a transaction at once so Dash was born as an alternative with privacy features like DarkSend (though idk if it was at the beggining <darkness was at the beginning btw >;)
