Anti-Karma Abuse?
« on: April 02, 2019, 10:31:50 PM »
At the moment, the only thing that's restricting karma abusers is the 1 in 100 hours per user rule. So I'm thinking maybe other rules can be implemented also such as:

1.  Each user can only give 10 karma week.
- 1 karma each to 10 different users
- Each eligible user will be given 10 new "sendable" karma every week whether or not he/she used all from the previous week.

2. Those who became eligible by reaching Sr. member rank cannot give out karma if they have -5 karma or more. They can only be allowed once their karma becomes neutral or positive.

What do you think?

100% agree with this suggestion. I think it doesn't make sense if members with (-) karma can give (+) karma to other members. All members with (-) karma should be restricted to not being able to give (+) karma to others.

[I give you +1 karma because of your nice suggestion ]

I'm not sure if what Zion said is what Admin actually means here (see highlight):

we are now using same requirements as btt , except we do not require merit, karma is only used for higher ranks, and as a stopper if negative
i didn't demote users, i increased the post requirements as a results, the users that did not have the new post count got demoted

This is good to hear, could you elaborate on if there is a karma requirement for higher rank, or whether it's only as a stopper if negative?

it is both, however i am rolling the karma part very slowly, need to observe effects while rolling it
thus not sharing much info about this for now, because this part is not 100% set yet

I think Zed30 is right, users can't get to sr member rank to grant karma if they have negative karma, which is ideal.
I think the karma limiting by time works better than by quantity and time personally. It drastically reduces karma abusive but means users can still grant enough karma to different users for quality posts (+) or for spam/plagiarism (-) without worrying about running out of it. Especially when there is a gang of plagiarists.
If anything, I'd suggest users start with +1 karma, as I recogize users easily make a mistake in the beginning and can then no longer be eligible for signature campaigns. If they started with +1 K, then they would have one chance before having negative karma. Makes the forum a bit more friendly maybe.

What do you think?

Is it possible to show the karma giver name on the post? If this will happen then people will fair to give friendly karma at useless post. It's hard to get a positive karma but some users are shearing positive karma among themselves.

Well, yeah, it is true. Admin has stated that limitation for karma givers. But maybe Zion wants to make it clearer. Anyway, I expect that Zion can respond our replies.  :D

On the negative karma as a "stopper" remark by admin, I do not think any of us know what it really means yet or how it actually works. I'll wait when it can be finally rolled out.

I understood "stopper" as stopping the upgrading to higher ranks. I don't think you can get to Sr Member or above with -K basically, but it doesn't require +K either.

This should be a welcome development though, even though I still have some negative karma of which I don't know the reason why I was given.... Hope the admins will look into this great idea though.

How can we see those who abuses the Karma? sorry but may I know if there is anyway to find who are sending these positive and negative karma? I am trying to find it but I think there is nothing to find.

There is no way to check it. Only admin can see it. He has the log of it. We can just monitor some suspicious accounts and report them. But if they are really abusing the karma system, only admin can check it.
