we better know which posts get karma
« on: February 03, 2021, 06:18:10 PM »
We know that the rules in this forum use karma as a medium to appreciate and also punish members who provide quality posts or those that are considered spam. As a rule, I strongly agree with the rules of this forum that hide the karma giver, because it is an ethic so that forum condition remains comfortable without karma war. but even so I have a thought and want to turn it into an idea. I thought about being able to see the post that was rewarded with karma. that way we know what kind of posts are considered to have quality or are considered spam. if we're going to appeal for negative karma, we'll be more specific about bringing the post for review. I think it will be very helpful for the members in learning to improve their posts. I clarify again so as not to misunderstand, that my idea is to see posts that are rewarded with karma, not to see people who give karma. thank you

Hi @Andalusy. Not long ago I asked something similar to what you just asked. The answer was the same, for ethics it is better not to know who gives you or who takes away your karma as long as it is not abused. I understand your curiosity, because I had it too, but then I realized that it is better as it is now, although each user will have their opinion of course.

You don't really need an example of what a high quality post and what a spam or low value is.

For the people who are still curious, just answer these questions before posting:
1. Is my post adding value to the topic?
2. Is my answer already given by other members?

I consider repeating/recycling answers of others as spam. If it's already been discussed fully or if the answer was already given, you do not need to post in that thread.

I think it has a difference. I don't want to see who is giving or taking karma from me. I just give suggestions to forum, so that we can see our posts that have been given karma. because it will make the members more enthusiastic to make quality posts.

Of course we all try to give replies according to the contents of the thread, sometimes we feel that we reply according to the contents of the thread but we still lose our karma, we don't even know which of our posts has been rewarded with karma (+ or -). Is it our new post or our old post. or just people who hate us.

Let's use one of your post as an example
all will become possible in the future. the competition will continue, whoever survives wins. with future technology developed by ethereum maybe that's one way they compete. whatever it is that will excel everything is possible
It's already on the 15th page of a four month old topic. What are the odds that a reply like yours haven't been given by someone else on a megaspam thread? I will probably find more like that but that's not necessary.

I hope my point is clear now.

I believe Zed0x is right. I also often give -karma for necro-bumping old topics with useless comment or otherwise repeating the same answers over and over again, mainly in the beginners "basic questions..." sub-sections. This is where you see it at it's worst, like a place to hide out and reply crap to a dozen old topics.

I doubt we are the only members who give -karma for this either, as it's annoying, as other users find too. I'm not saying it's right or wrong to do this, this is ultimately up to karma issuers to decide, but I can understand the desire to curate the content that is posted here with positive and negative karma.

Better than bumping a 3 year old 25 page thread, try engaging in discussion in a new topics that get's posted. Better yet, create your own.

that way I can give negative karma to posts that don't match the content I asked in this thread. but I didn't do that because I asked all the members who wanted to answer my question in this thread. Even though 3 years from now there are still those who answer, I still won't give negative karma because they give their aspirations. I really appreciate them. as long as it's appropriate, it doesn't matter. because many threads are universal, all can reply indefinitely.

Good to know who granted you +1 nor -1.
In this case you will be inspired doing more quality posts or you will return the favor to issuer neither +1 nor -1. We are human, we want to return the favor to whom who granted neither good or bad. I'm not saying all will do this but there is a chance to repeat the cycle. Avoid spam and love quality.

With regards to megaspam thread, better to lock them so we can create new topic for fresh discussion.

True, you or someone else could if you feel slightly off-topic discussion is deserving of it, I wouldn't be offended if you did either. it's up to you to decide what is good quality and what is poor quality, no one else. I get -1 regularly enough I notice for my opinions, but this hasn't stopped me yet :)

Even though 3 years from now there are still those who answer, I still won't give negative karma because they give their aspirations. I really appreciate them. as long as it's appropriate, it doesn't matter. because many threads are universal, all can reply indefinitely.

Not all of the comments are bad, but most are. This is why I don't appreciate them, I don't think they bring any value to to forum or others. People wanting answers to simple questions aren't going to read pages worth of reptitive replies, even if on the 4th or 5th page there's a good comment.

Sometimes it's about where you post your quality comment. If it's in a poor quality thread (long spam thread), it's pretty pointless if you ask me. The only ones who will read it will be mods, who may or may not give -karma karma if its a shitpost. Even if a good or unique comment it's value that will go unnoticed by all.

As I've said before elsewhere, most seem to know when to give +karma (good quality) but most don't seem to know when to use -karma (poor quality). I don't necessariy see -karma as a punishment unless someone is on less than 0, it's merely a form of content curation.

To return to your original point, the above is why I don't believe in knowing who gives +/- karma. If abuse is happening, users can appeal in court and are usually successful in having karma issuance taken away from abusers. It only serves to reduce the ability to give -karma anonymously, when enough isn't given out already imo.

Only a couple of years ago spammers, plagiarists shitposters and the like could be on +X karma at best, even if most were on -X or -XX. This year and last it seems many are on +XX karma, much less likely -X anymore, rarely -XX. If things don't change for the better, they will probably get to +XXX and at best be as low as +X, not even -X.

Having the transparency behind -karma issuance wouldn't help this problem imo.

With regards to megaspam thread, better to lock them so we can create new topic for fresh discussion.

True. Maybe when you become a mod of beginners section you can have a look at this.
Too many spam threads to lock it seems, users continue to find old ones to post in  :-\

please, once again please. I'm not suggesting knowing someone who gave or took karma, but I prefer to know our posts were given or taken away by karma, and we shouldn't really need to know who did that. and of course it will make the appeal easier, if you know which posts they think are not quite right

Wow!  ;D
I hope will do the best to help promote new threads to discuss than the old topic 3 years ago. With this new ideas will probably pop-up.

I think we understand you very well mate.
To be honest we are in the same both just want to know what post got karma neither +1 nor -1.

In my opinion karma is not the main issue here but how we behave in this forum. Btw, there are dedicated team in this forum doing their best to maintain the forum on the right track. You can also try to help the forum.  ;D you can also try and make it a habit to give karma to every one you think will deserve it.

yeah ,, I agree to this. maybe I'm just too scared to lose karma. because I think more and more people are taking karma from me, it makes me feel bad and can't provide useful posts for the threader.

Fair point, my bad. I thought you had suggested to show who gave karma (the age old question). I realise that's not the case.

I'm not opposed to the idea, but I also not sure it's that great an idea either. I like that users don't know which of their good quality posts gained karma, and therefore don't try and simply repeat and replicate to get more of the same. Instead they just continue trying to create good quality, and thus continue to get karma. Over time, users will get an idea of what type of posts or topics they are getting more karma from, but this takes time before it becomes obvious.

It'd be useful for users to learn which posts they got negative karma from for sure, but also I wouldn't want to solely have this as would make karma a lot more of a negative than it actually is - if karma only showed for - not +, not that you were suggesting that but as example, given that I'm not particularly in favor of showing which posts get +karma. Either way, I'm convinced it's a great idea, even if relatively new and one to probably consider.

You otherwise can't really appeal simply receiving negative karma, only if you have a lot of -karma, or otherwise lost a lot in a targeted/abusive way from a single user. You can only really appeal karma abuse if a lot of it, or having your karma reset if very negative. Appealing lost karma for individual posts sounds a bit pointless too, better off just trying to gain more positive karma rather than simply losing it.

@Andalusy

You know quality post matters.
Maybe you didn't realized these mistakes....

better modify it now to stop receiving -1 from unknown concern user/s
Anyway, despite of receiving -1, you still got +6 karma. So modify your post otherwise it will become -5 or -4.  ;)
