What is Tempus?

Tempus is an on-chain derivatives marketplace that allows users to optimize their existing exposure to variable yield to better match their risk profile.

Introduction

Yield farming means putting your tokens to work by depositing them to a DeFi protocol, and earning the same token as a form of reward. Introduced by Compound in the context of lending, there are now hundreds of ways to earn yield in DeFi, including lending, staking and LPing.

Most forms of yield farming returns a variable rate of yield. This means that depositors can be subject to unpredictable fluctuations in their returns. Currently, there is no easy way to obtain a fixed yield or otherwise speculate on the receivable rewards.

This is where Tempus steps in, allowing users to perform four different use cases, all of which offer a unique value proposition.

1 Yield farm at a fixed rate.

2 Yield farm on leverage.

3 Speculate on short or longer term fluctuations in the rate of interest or yield.

4 Earn swap fees as a liquidity provider (on top of yield earned through yield farming protocols).
