How easil to detect a crypto scam [for Newbies]
« on: May 07, 2019, 09:53:37 PM »
Does the website connect securely over https (not http)? If the address starts with “http” instead of “https,” the data you send to the website is not secure.
Can you see the word “Secure” or an image of a padlock in your web browser’s address bar? This indicates that a website is secure.
Does the website’s URL have any noticeable spelling mistakes or errors? If so, it could be a fake.
Does the site feature bad grammar, awkward phrasing or spelling mistakes? If it does, this doesn’t necessarily indicate a scam, but it does mean you should proceed with caution.
Does the website promise abnormally high returns? (For example, does it claim you’ll be able to double your investment?) This should raise a big red flag and is a common indicator of a scam.
Is there an “About us” page? Does it show the real people behind the company? Does it provide any details about where the company is registered? If there’s little or no information about who the company is and what it does, you could be dealing with a scam.
Do legitimate, reputable websites link to this site? This could indicate that the site is trusted and respected.
What do other users say about the website? Are there any negative reviews and, if so, what do they say? The crypto community is usually pretty quick to spread the word about scams.
Who is the registered owner of a domain or website? Is the owner hidden behind private registration? Has the domain been registered for less than six months? (You can find this information by searching for the platform’s URL registration details on a site like WHOis.net). The more information you can find about the people/company behind a website, the better.
Is there anything else about the website that raises red flags or just seems too good to be true? If there’s something that just doesn’t seem right, trust your gut.

As a rule of thumb, if it is too good to be true then it's more likely a scam. Stay away.

Yes, having the "s" gives you better protection but never assume that all sites with "https" are legit. There are many scams with great looking and professionally done websites. Apply other tips mentioned in the OP.

If you are getting an offer which seems unrealistic then you are going to face a scam. You must have to stay active for staying away from the scams. Unfortunately, you will find huge amount of scams on money markets. There is a clear need of regulation in this regard.

Well-prepared cryptocurrency frauds are not so easy to detect. Fraudsters also learn from their own, but most of the mistakes of others. We learn mainly from our mistakes.
If we assume that the fraudulent ICO project is prepared very well, it is difficult to detect fraud in it. Therefore, bounty hunters sometimes have to risk their time and effort.

Now the scammers can have the best whitepaper ever, and you will never think that this is a fraud. In reality, it is extremely difficult not to understand if the project is a scam or if it is honest.

I'll just say 'Bunny Token' and leave it there... we all fall for them as part of the learning curve  ::)

Having HTTPS is a sign of a professional set-up but the certificates can be bought via the web hosting so not a guarantee - just a 'bad smell' if it's missing that might be an indication of something more concerning in the project. If the site expects you to conduct any form of transaction, of information or monies, with no HTTPS, then don't.

Abnormally high returns are also a 'bad smell' but it in the crypto space it may be possible. There are a few things I'd be thinking;
 - If the returns were being 'guaranteed' to be 10,000x etc.
-- you can bet the investors would increase the cost of tokens/coins to you as the objective is for them to maximise profit not give money away.
-- they better be stating clearly why they can't realise that profit. Are they locked out? Is it a charity? What's the reason?
-- have they published a paper on tokenomics or economics in their target market? Do they explain how they've arrived at the valuation / return on investment and why the token/coin price is set as it is?

There is always a possiblity of scam where a huge glimpse of money is present. Crypto market offers millions of dollars which makes some people inhumane. They try to scam others by offering them fake bonuses. Hacking is another way to cheat people. You must have to take care of your account!
