MetaMask Releases New Toolkit for 'Seamless Onboarding'

The news was announced at the Ethereum Community Conference (EthCC) in Brussels, Belgium, where the company plans to begin onboarding developers to use its new product.
According to a press release shared with CoinDesk, the Delegation Toolkit will allow for instant user onboarding without needing to interact with a traditional wallet, in addition to eliminating “user friction completely,” meaning no pop-ups or confirmations when switching between a decentralized application and wallet.
In addition, Consensys said that the toolkit is supposed to simplify smart contract development, and allow developers to reassign gas costs to others – aiming to make it possible for developers to determine that certain individuals will not have to pay any fees.

Honestly I'm curious about the offer of gas fee waivers for designated individuals (probably not randomly), this sounds like some kind of tracking function to the various dapps where the user interacts with. Moreover, making tx without gas fees at all seems impossible, we'll see how it turns out.

It is not impossible if you will pay the fees indirectly, such as merging Visa or MasterCard cards to pay the fees, especially since gas fees for many currencies are very low.
MetaMask development is moving toward centralization, so I would not be surprised if they develop technologies like this.

I don't think that will happen at least in the near future. Then it will be a closed source wallet like its competitors. This feature I think will only add third party accessibility permissions where they'll have to take some metamask user data as a variable for fee waiver eligibility. In short, this could reduce privacy.

What data might they get? I used to think that MetaMask only collects IP addresses and transaction details. Using Tor would make the data they might collect less valuable.

Data related to user personality may not be really needed. The data that I think is related to this feature is the history of dapps with which you interact intensively, this will be a reference that metamask can provide to other relevant dapps in the future so that you're eligible to enjoy low fees or fee waivers. Well, this is just my assumption.

This data is available to everyone, but if Metamask provides it as part of a smart contract to reduce fees, it could be a nice addition.

They mentioned something about using tokens as gas fees, so maybe it also refers to how a user doesn't need to pay with his ETH and uses other tokens (including the dapps' own token) to pay gas fees instead[1]. Honestly, I don't get why developer needs to make user interaction with their apps more seamless than the status quo, do people get turned off from approving new interactions whenever they access a new dapp?

This means it's not really free. I've seen some similar protocols in the past on a web3 DEX (forgot the name), and it was actually more expensive than using native coins as gas. It would be a shame if this flexibility came at the expense of a few extra $, hopefully not with this new feature.
