For the time being it won't, because the bitcoin is like the mother of the cryptos and the most popular right now unlike ETH which is still new compared to btc.

btc is storage of value
eth is usefull in so many ways
2 different currencies.

They botg gace totally different use cases and if we only look at the total market cap I do not think ETH will surpass BTC, but it might on the trading volume as BTC becomes more and more of an asset and less of a currency.
