The blockchain scalability problem

Imagine going to a computer store to buy a new computer. You're offered a super-fast computer that was just released, but it can't run anything that exists today: applications, libraries, tools, operating systems, compilers, interpreters - you name it.

It only runs it own type of machine code. The salesperson tries to persuade you: "New software can be developed from the ground up for it!" Would you buy?

Ethereum smart contracts are like this computer, except they’re also super slow. Scalability solutions are poised to break smart contract processing constraints, but without also addressing the lack of a large, mature, and battle-tested ecosystem, their usefulness is limited.

Cartesi developing their own rollups solution, which is the answer to the scalability problem. Unlike other solutions, Cartesi bring mainstream development toolchains to the table, as well as computational scalability.

Smart Contracts are immutable: they cannot be changed after deployment, only replaced. This goes along with the original idea of a trusted blockchain environment, but makes it difficult to maintain and upgrade them.

To mitigate these issues, EIP-2535 proposes a sophisticated proxy pattern, which allows the addition, replacement, and removal of functions and virtually removes any constraint on the code size; and an innovative storage layout, which is collision-resistant and very flexible.

I'm not a developer, but if I understand correctly in simplified form: a smart contract cannot be changed, but it can refer to other contracts to perform certain functions, this solution allows you to change/delete/add these sub-contracts to update the main one.
