Why do people get negative karma on this forum?

People get negative karma on this forum because they do not follow the rules of the forum...
There are different layers down rules and consequences for failure to comply to the rules, that are being stated in this forum.
As a fresher pr a newbie, check the forum for more information

the chance of you getting negative karma is low, or as a result, you get more positive karma than negative ones, so do not focus on the negative one if it happens to you.
If you feel that there is an account that is constantly giving you negative karma, you can use The Eye of Sauron^[1] and find out the identity of that account and then determine whether the reasons are real or whether karma is being misused.

It is simply the rules of this forum, it is a different system from others where there is no negative karma or similar system that allows downvoting. I guess in the long run we are all going to get negative karma at some point, the point is that you get a lot more positive karma. As hugeblack says don't focus on the negative if you ever receive it, just focus on getting better and better and you will get more and more positive karma and the likelihood of receiving negative will be reduced.

you forget to mention about those Karma abuser because I am one of the victim when i was new here and that made me felt bad because as a newly teleported account will receive negative karma in my 3rd day here?
knowing that i have just posted couple in some thread with respect and decency .

It might be posts that are unnecessary as well. It's hard to make sure to please everyone so you just have to make sense when you are posting and not just post to post. It sometimes can easily be seen when you read the post and it is better to call them out if you see something like that.

Lots of reason, most of them are mentioned here. But i guess it's the (incorrect) information/opinion you share/answer and the tone of the post like aggressive/rude. Well, this is only mine, as it's what i give -karma. So far it's only few of them yet. I don't usually give those who are rule breaking users, i usually report them to the mods and let them decide what to do.

As far as I know, anyone can give negative karma for any reason they want.

If I don't like a post, if I see any misinformation or if I consider it spam, I just click - Karma button.

I think this is important, so users have incentive to make good contributions, and to avoid spam or misinformation.,

It seems different people will give negative karma for different reasons. All these are just subjective as what I could actually overlook is what someone else will give negative karma for. But these are some generic reasons people will get negative karma;

• Sound rude or offensive 
• Give false information 
• Excessive Begging
• Showing signs of scamming

I see that many people are cautious about karma, whether positive or negative. Perhaps making the system more transparent will enhance the positive karma and reduce the abuse of the negative one, which requires that it be possible to see who gave karma and reply/topic to which it was given.

As you mentioned, people get negative karma on this forum because they don't follow the forum rules in the first place, but of course you can get negative karma as a result of other reasons, such as someone not liking your post.

The Karma System was originally created to make members improve the quality of their posts by gaining positive karma and alert other members to their mistakes through negative karma, but as with any system it can be abused.

Everyone here can send negative karma to anyone by pressing the Karma [-] button, it's very easy and there are no special requirements (POV from my account). I can't abuse this negative karma feature, because to be honest, the users here are very friendly and I often get positive karma which can boost my enthusiasm for posting. Yes, instead of giving negative karma, I would rather give advice to the person first.

Negative karma can be obtained if you have posts that disturb other users. So, instead of writing something to create a negative vibe, it's better to change it so that you only create a positive vibe. Even though it won't give you positive karma, at least you won't get negative karma.

Besides the cause of disobeying forum rules and still getting negative karma, there remain only unethical ways, like intentionally giving negative karma to members, just because you don't like the post content while the content in itself was valid, and giving negative karma is not the right thing to do, instead, it is equal to the mis use of the karma giving power.

So the god of karma the admin has the power to take your karma giving power away and you can't give karma to anyone. Until Admin will allow you to. So fear this and don't misuse the power and try to give negative karma to only those who deserves it.

And besides this, one might get a negative karma due to some mistake for example, a person X wants to give positive karma to person Y but mistakenly clicked on Negative karma, but did not noticed if he/she clicked on negative or positive, but thought that he clicked on positive makes one vulnerable to unwanted negative karma. This also be another reason.

I want to add to your intentionally giving neg argument. Although the admin has declared they will be vigilant against abusers, they can still affect users in the short term by ganging up with a group and handing out multiple negative karmas at once. 4-5 users could just say that they disagreed with someones post.

I'd rather focus on being a positive influence on this platform vs trying to impose my will on those that disagree with my opinion.

Already, the admin have stated the reasons why users can get negative karma, if their are other valid reasons for negative karma I believe it should have been updated earlier before now. If you must know, any unethical behavior that goes against the rules of the forum deserves a negative karma.
