maybe you can try my ether wallet or buy wallet hardware like matemask or trezor, because in wallet hardware it's guaranteed security and can be used for ether and altcoin with ether platfroms as well.

yes it is safe but sometime (happen last year) myetherwallet DNS is compromised then user who fill the privarekey will leaked to the hacker, thats why myetherwallet company say 'not recommended' to unlock wallet with privatekey
