I believe it's not that hard to make sure your air-gapped device is offline. It's not like a USB device can magically connect to your device without notice. If you're afraid that someone might use your PC, you can move it to somewhere safe, apply a boot password, etc. Even if those steps are too difficult for you, you can familiarize yourself easily. As long as you realize that these trade-offs are worth the cost, I don't think you'll be annoyed to an extreme extent.
I think your point is more of a relative one. Airgapped wallets can be difficult to setup and likewise it can also be easy to setup however it all depends on a couple of things , and I think two of the most important things are the kind of device and also the person setting up the airgapped device. Take for example someone wants to set up an airgapped device and he wants to make use of a PC now PCs are generally easier since you can tweak most components unlike your regular smart phones.
Now a person who understands airgapping very much will make sure to remove all networking components however some regular guy on the other hand may just uninstall the network drivers and chill.

I have the ledger nano s, the very first version of them, i just replaced the screen since it doesn't show the digits/characters in it anymore because the device's age.
I did have the X version too but never used it and just sold it here in my local marketplace.

I have ledger nano S as well and it's screen is done for, I was looking to change it but you mention changing screen. Could you elaborate where did you get screen from? Is worldwide shipping available? And how did you change it?

Thanks in advance.

Hardware wallets are much safer option for holding your cryptocurrencies, and there are many options to choose but they are not perfect.

If you are using hardware wallet please tell us the model you have.

If you don't use any hardware wallet can you please state your reasons why.

No, I don't use any hardware wallets.

It's not that I hate hardware wallets or anything, I just can't use them. Where I live, it's hard to acquire a hardware wallet like Ledger or Trezor. Because crypto is still banned in my country. I can't just purchase a hardware wallet or order one online. Even if I did order, the customs authority might seize it. You understand what I'm trying to say, right? There is a risk of me being exposed that I'm using crypto. Though it is banned, many of my countrymen are still using it (in secrecy, of course). AFAIK, most of us don't use any hardware wallets but use other methods to hide our seeds or assets.

I used the ecommerce site Shopee, it's known on any south east asia country and AFAIK its only available in SEA. You can search the "ledger screen" and it will show those products, and i found mine here https://s.shopee.ph/609zayuJxn i search that is available in alibaba too. On how you can do it, youtube is my aid, there are lots of videos available there on how to do it.

This is the weakest part of that hardware wallet model, but you can buy new one cheap from China.
Quick fix is to use smartphone camera to read the content of the screen, this actually works inmost cases.
You can find instructions for replacing screen on bitcointalk forum.

Display is dim along with dead pixels, so camera thingy doesn't work. I have watched videos on YT about replacing it, and it rather seems simple on first glance, hopefully I will be able to do it, once I receive it.

Maye I ask why even bother with replacing the Ledger screen?

Given all their issues and lies in the last few years, wouldn't the failing Ledger be a perfect excuse for getting something better?

I'm not a hardware wallet user myself, but I think Ledger is definitely one of the best out there. Their security chip technology is top-notch, even though they had that pretty weird idea about centralized private key storage. Still, they've managed to keep a lot of users' trust.

Personally, I haven't needed a hardware wallet yet. Hot wallets and CEXs have been good enough for my investing needs. I think about getting one sometimes, but I haven't pulled the trigger.

I have same question. After all, cost of the display and other necessary accessory to perform replacement may rival cost of new hardware wallet from different company.

What kind of trust you're talking about? After data leak[1], code poison[2], Ledger Recover and other things, i don't trust Ledger anymore.

Yeah, I guess this easy ''trick'' can't revive dead pixels :P
If money is not a problem I would consider replacing this device with something better that is open source.
I expect old ledger devices to be discontinued and not supported in near future, maybe even Trezor One as well.

I'm not a hardware wallet user myself, but I think Ledger is definitely one of the best out there.
They were the most popular one, but their reputation (at least among those who know about the subject) is ruined.

even though they had that pretty weird idea about centralized private key storage.
+all the lying.

Still, they've managed to keep a lot of users' trust.
I think its more about the fact that people don't really foillow the subject closely and they have no idea what's going on. They bought Ledger, sent their crypto there and forgot about it.

Hardware wallets would really be only relevant on the time or moment that you do have that big amount of holding but if you do have only that small or average then Electrum or some non custodial wallets would suffice or be enough, specially into those people who dont have that budget on buying up a HW then it wont really be that a bad idea  on having some piece of paper and be
hiding that PK into the safe place,. as long it would really be that far from other peoples attention or awareness then you should be just fine. Just like with the basic recommendation that
exchange wallets arent that ideal at all.

Now would be the perfect time to buy a hardware wallet if you have been thinking about it and waiting for discounts.
Keystone is currently offering 20% storewide discount, and they are offering discount in batches, with Keystone 3 Pro having a $119 price, and additional 10% coupon code BFFORX:
https://keyst.one

Trezor is also having very good deals that are starting as low as 34$
