That's right, Altcoins have a close relationship with Bitcoin.  This is because Bitcoin is the parent of Cryptocurrencies like what you mentioned, I agree because every time I see there is no Altcoins that can exist independently and most of them about prices also always follow Bitcoin price changes. 
But is it possible that someday there will be independent Altcoins without Bitcoin?  I think it's difficult and maybe I don't believe it, instead of saying Altcoins are independent but actually they are also hitchhiking with the popularity of Bitcoin.

Basically, the term "Bitcoin is the king of crypto" means Btc lead the tempo whether to move forward or move backward. Altcoins definitely will follow cuz Btc dominate the entire market.

Altcoins can not stand on its own because Bitcoin is paired to all altcoins on the market, and being the first crypto coin, it has that advantage, not possible to change now may be this control may be broken in the future.
In additions, bitcoin price pump does not reflect on the prices of altcoins because of wide range continieing dominance. Again, altcoins declining during bitcoin pump, some shows market sentiments, participants may be following markets trends partterns.

We can say Bitcoin is the base currency of most of the altcoins so whenever Btc drops Altcoins also drop but in the past 2 years we have seen most of the altcoins are now trading with different-different cryptocurrencies like USDT, TRX, BNB and ETH also So altcoins should also stand strong when BTC drops but the nature of the market is still same almost every cryptocurrency drops when BTC drops.
