I would ask you a counter question - would Bitcoin be a priority in that case? Given that the internet has become something that in many ways drives today's digital world, it would be impossible to function without it. It is logical that without the internet there is no trade or transaction, and in that case Bitcoin becomes completely worthless as well as anything that depends on the internet.

All social networks would disappear, YouTube and e-mail would no longer function, and banks would return to the pre-internet era, which means that you could use your bank card to scrape ice off your windshield.

I think they are exaggerating with these solar storms, because they have been talking about it since I can remember, so although there is always a possibility of something like that happening - is that possibility smaller or larger than an asteroid impact and the eruption of a supervolcano?

We faced an internet apocalypse for 1 day a few days ago on 8th Feb, it was election day, internet service was off, and only PTCL wifi was working, so it did not really mean we were facing a full internet apocalypse but partial.  But we do also face full when there is electricity outage for like few days in our country due to a major problem with main grid stations, and internet mobile phones everything was out.

The point is I have experienced how it feels in internet apocalypse and one thing I have found is you sleep early in the night and wake early as well,  You feel like complete and BTC are not going anywhere, if internet will hit, mining, validation, processing of transaction will stop and everything will stuck at that point. But after recovery everything will resume from the same point it left.

I guess the same for banks, social medias, and absolutely everything which needs electricity... So, as Lucius said, BTC will be our last priority in this case. The fact of being able to call emergency services if needed is more important than BTC for example, and... examples like this could be numerous...

I would be more worried about some new restrictive US laws/regulations than solar storms if we must focus on BTC and its self interest.

lots of crazy stuff they are posting on science and the academia society are also nodding each time. before covid, people will ridicule you when you claim there are aliens but now the government itself are showing 2 aliens from Mexico that looks like out of clay to prove their point. just imagine how the ruined the Christian's belief that god created humans in their likeness. but now there are 2 skinney 3 footer beings who comes out of their alien ship.

The internet apocalypse means that after that there will be no internet anymore, right? If there was no internet in this world, what would be on your mind? Of course we will return to the days before there was the internet. And it will definitely be worse because all this time we really need the internet for various needs. It's not just Bitcoin that's affected, but all entities, all activities that have been connected to the internet, means it's over and will soon become extinct, right? So what else is there to ask, of course this will all be extinct and in vain. Or everything will just be stored in the wallet without any activity from Bitcoin. because there is no internet.

I am thinking of these as well as it pose threat to almost anything on earth and could possibly wipe us all except for those living in the space station. 😁 So if that will happen, Bitcoin's price will become stagnant? And huge part of the total supply will be lost forever unless astronauts have holdings in Bitcoin. This may sound like a stupid question or topic but who knows?

This topic has become a hot topic of conversation since this issue was announced on the internet. Solar storms are a disaster that is expected to disrupt the world's internet signal, perhaps it will paralyze the internet signal. Just imagine that the world that is currently connected to internet access will be cut off, it will cause massive losses every second. Not only Bitcoin, but more than that, all industries related to the internet will be affected by this.
However, this is just artificial news, it is true that solar storms will hit the world, but it will not cause the internet to paralyze as reported by people on the internet. So there is nothing to worry about about this.

It seems to me that the astronauts in the ISS are in a much worse position in the event of a major solar storm, because the Earth has protection in the form of its atmosphere and magnetic fields. But why do you think that in the event of a solar storm most of the Bitcoin would be destroyed on Earth? People store their BTC in the form of private keys/seeds that can be (and mostly are) out of digital form, and all BTC are anyway on the blockchain, which is just a database that has so many copies that surely some of them will survive even in the event of a lot major disasters.

I would conclude that you may be thinking about some things in the wrong way, but the possibility of something like the Carrington Event happening is always possible - and it would certainly cause major disruptions in today's life and affect the price of Bitcoin, most likely in a negative way.

I think it will have a good impact on the price of Bitcoin, taking advantage of traders who are panicking because the price will certainly fall. Of course, some people who know how to access the Internet will still get access, even though it is very limited. I'm sure the solar storm will have a significant impact. stronger for people on the space station, because the first layer to receive solar storms are the astronauts outside the earth, who may experience internet disruptions too.

Yeah I could be wrong on that ISS thing but that Carrington thing you just mentioned is way to scary we might end up melted like plastic if that really happen and survivality is like unclear or even impossible. I think that would be the end of Bitcoin as well.

Hmm, TBH first of all this can happen only in the World War crisis, and at the same time, a complete internet outage requires a destruction of our current technology in electricity and in communication devices, if it happens so it can be even rebuilt but in the worth case scenario where no tech exist anymore the digital era will also be dead and on that time our priority will be survival, not the Bitcoins we had.

Also a short term internet outage cant effect Bitcoin's market price really but in pandemic situations things follow another route because at that time money worth nothing in any form weather its digital cash. What matter is humanity and the survival. My words and view is quite similar as Lucius

I thought I already gave a reply to this thread, but I thought I was wrong, but I already gave a reply to this question on BTT. Well, here it goes again, I think most of the internet is not dependent on satellites, so even if some solar storm will passes the earth, that was passed a long time ago, it might only effect the satellites only.

And there is might in it, because last time we did not have the same level of technology that we have now, and even if some of the satellites will go down, companies have more satellites, they can launch them to compensate for the damage. Plus most of the internet is connected via wires buried under ground, connecting country to country. We should not overthink and consider different scenarios like we are going to lose our BTC forever due to this solar storm.

Solar storm means devastating damage to all kind of electronics. Electricity will be unavailable and something that is reliable on energy consumption such as electricity and based on digital environment such as internet would have no way to operate in this situation. Without electricity and internet, Bitcoin is nothing. So if that happens then I think this answers your question.

Although people have come up with new technologies in order to prevent such damage, I don't think it is completely immune to something like this. The power outage could last for sometime from 3 to 7 days, Even month, but the recovery time should be quick. There will be a panic amongst users but when it comes back online, everything is going to be fine.

Well, if you look at it from all other ramifications, if such thing happens worldwide and maybe the internet is affected, hope you know that it's not only Bitcoin that will get affected? Bitcoin may become worthless because trading may not be on and everything that related to internet will stop and things is going to be very boring at that time because what makes life a bit simple and easy now is because of the monder technology we are enjoying now and hope you know that in this modern world, almost everything now works with internet connection. Sending of mails, bank transfer, video calls, etc will all be on hold too.
