Post by: Igebotz on January 05, 2024, 12:47:06 AM
Beware of this fake Metamask airdrop - it's an attempt to wipe out your wallet once connected.

Thanks for the link, it will be helpful, as current time is of airdrops, new airdrops are keep coming especially the ones of inscription but to be honest as an active airdrop joiner, till now I did not face any issues maybe that's because I don't have enough funds to withdraw or make a transaction (like to pay the gas fee).

Well, I don't have any technical idea of how these scammers work but if they also have to pay a fee to make tx then do not keep any in your wallet, and I think to track the incoming and outgoing transactions we should set a tracker which would give us notifications, so when scammer have to withdraw funds from our wallet, he might have to manage for funds first so incoming or outgoing tx's notification could help us.

But what should be the first step for us after knowing that we are being hacked? As we can't change the phrase or key? we can't act faster than hacker in most of the cases.

I think it was flagged to be a phishing site, It is good that they were quick to flag this phishing site, hopefully, no users connected their wallets to this phishing site.

TX tracker will not do you any good if your wallet is connected to a phishing site or compromised, the only thing you will be receiving is bunch of withdrawal notifications and there is nothing you can do about it cause everything would be wiped within a secs. The only tracker I use is mempool and BTC fee and price tracker. Others are rubbish.

hopefully, no users connected their wallets to this phishing site.
There is always a victim.

The phishing and scam link from scammers is not new again, and they have been sending such mail both for Metamask and other crypto wallets. Just newbies who don't know their left and right will fall victim to this because email is not required for wallet creation.

hopefully, no users connected their wallets to this phishing site.

No matter how many minutes the phishing link lasted before the site was taken down, there is always a victim. It won't come out to the public for the main time until there is some sort of review of that incident. That's where you could be able to know how much was lost and how many users were affected. Until then, we cannot be too sure of what really happened and the number of users that were affected.

This is good news but the problem is that site making is so easy and it cost only 50$ to create new site. I appreciate OP(thread Creator) work to aware community but we have to  be very careful online. The main source of hacking is through mail where hackers send mail to pretend to be a official Metamask team and ask you to write phrase key. The another method hackers uses are through connecting wallet which will drain your wallet after giving approval. I once entered old phrase key but I aware instantly and then removed all fund and never used this wallet again.
