Title: What makes a country powerful.
Post by: Sim_card on April 12, 2024, 08:11:17 PM
I said let me bring this up here, as though it is a topic that has been discussed in the other forum, last year or two, because I was able to see it there.

We know that powerful countries are the ones that is ruling the world, as they are been feared by other countries based on how strong they are. This brings to question of... What do you think that makes a country powerful? Is it the country 's military or her economy or her currency.
Please let's discuss, and give me your reasons.

What make a country powerful, is not just because of their population alone, there are other criterias that make a country powerful, they are: economy influence, military strength, political stability, leadership and territory.
The strength of any country lies on the criterias that are mention or listed. This is my opinion.

Neither!
Its people!
They are running the economy, serving in the army, and strengthening the currency!
Everything else is just a result of the population decision, you will not have a healthy economy with a lazy and corrupt population, you will not have a great army with a country of cowards and you for sure won't have a currency that is better than toilet paper with those either.
And before anyone says something about the ones ruling their country, they are too the reflection of what the population wants.

In the definition of power, a country is considered powerful if it has a strong economy, a large military, and a smart population.
However, the fundamental element that makes a country powerful is effective and institutionalized authority that can provide welfare for its people.
Civic competence (civic awareness based on an appreciation of the principle of tolerance) is the main factor that drives all of this.

It is necessary to determine what "format" of the country we are considering. If we take totalitarian and "medieval regimes" - then there all greatness is reduced to a huge, preferably poorly educated population, a huge army with almost unlimited human resources and aggressive policy, both in relation to its own population and neighboring countries.

If we talk about more civilized and developed countries, it is worth considering a set of indicators:
External:
Weight in world politics, economy, army, technology, ...
Internal:
Education, standard of living of the population, economic and universal freedoms, quality legislation, accessibility of education and medicine.

If a country is rich in natural resources or reserves, has strong economy, strong military to protect the country's interests and resources, highly developed with technologically advanced innovations I think we can say that a country is powerful enough in that aspect.

I would only add a little:
1. resources are not necessary, but desirable. We know a lot of examples when countries do not have significant resources, but have very efficient economies. As well as there are variants on the contrary - huge resources, but the economy is stuck in the 20th century....
2. the army is exactly powerful - in terms of high technology, and effective concepts. A larger (in terms of the number of people and equipment) but primitive army, built on the concept of warfare of the last century, is certainly a significant power, but... as the practice of recent years shows - not very effective in terms of achieving military goals.

...and add an efficient financial system !

I agree with you. The people and their mindset is what will make a country powerful. Just like you said, they will be the ones in various places like the military and the other ministries that will build a strong economy and powerful government. Lazy and corrupt people will end up making a country very weak in all aspects.

Most of the time people and the government plays an important role in achieving  a greater economic growth but if we are talking about corruption things will be different as we can see it will always bring chaos to the economic stability.

Powerful countries are those that have economic power and military power. All of them are also politically stable. Geography and population are also a factor. The example is China. A country with a decent size and population follows proper policies then with a span of 25-30 years time it can get up to the elite club of powerful countries. So political will and direction are very important.

It is impossible to ensure that every government is clean, even the powerful ones. Who's to say everyone is corrupt and they just have a good habit of covering their tracks? People are definitely the center of all of this, but it assumes no other factors influence their decision or how they can make a country strong because they are diligent. I dunno, I feel like it simplifies a lot of things which makes us miss important factors like luck, geographical advantage, etc.

i think its always parallel to the economy of a country and the military technology.  economic might includes energy source of their own that's why Russia is still a strong because of their gas and oil. the middle east countries could be strong actually, they just don't have the military might.

if one is lacking, they're going to have a problem especially if its economy is struggling. its been observed on empires when they fund a war while their people is hungry. Rome crumbles because of them funding several wars while they can't afford.

Lazy and corrupt people will end up making a country very weak in all aspects.

the geographical advantage are often negated by proxy war and propaganda. the media is always going to be useful in this case.

There are many things in which we can consider as part of the requirements needed for a country to be considered a powerful one, i will bring in some list of them here.

1. The country economy plan and management
2. Population measure and budget
3. the country's GDP growth rate
4. Employment and unemployment rates
5. Poverty reduction level and good governance
6. International independencies on the economy
7. increased rate of productivities
8. Technological development
9. Military strength
10. Nuclear weapons

All these and many more are part of the constituent that makes a country become more powerful because they have less dependencies on others for thier sustainability.

I agree and without those criterias might be so hard to achieve being the super power though there are some that has huge gold reserves and other minerals or fossil fuels but it helps determining how capable is a country will be. Some of us might only compare the firepower of militaries around the world but it might also be a part of this.

A powerful country is one that has a stable economy and a strong military as well. A powerful country is a country that can be self-sustaining; it is a country that does not depend on another country for many things; rather, Other countries depend on them for certain things. A country will not be powerful if its economy is stronger than its military or if its military is by far stronger than its economy, because a poor economy will find it difficult to support the military in a time of crisis.

All countries are weak to say any have real power is an illusion at this moment in this.

We are on a world that when spilt up has:

1/3 of 1 acre of fresh water per person.
4 acres of land per person.
12 acres of ocean per person.

If any country had real power they could fix the issue above. I say all are weak and suffer delusions of grandeur while the world literally is fucking itself to death.

You cited indicators that say only one thing - mankind is breeding mindlessly, and mindlessly destroying nature and resources. At the same time, whether we like it or not, the biggest population growth comes from poor countries (or rather, the poor population of countries). I do not think that this problem should and can be solved by the countries of the developed world. Why not? Because I don't know from hearsay how the world's aid has been "used" to help poor countries for decades.
Instead of local people demanding to build them factories, they demand "just feed and house us, we don't want to work". When they are told they need health care, hygiene, and birth control, they scream "stay out of our lives, our traditions, and our faith".  At the same time, a huge number of "humanitarian organizations" and local authorities of countries "in need of help" are just corrupt feeding troughs for tens and hundreds of thousands of thieves of OUR money, which supposedly goes to "help poor countries"
