Powerball: US man sues lottery after being told $340m win is error

It happened last January 2023 and the next hearing will be on February 23, 2024. I think the lottery can easily prove if it was indeed a mistake and that means they do not have to pay the man the jackpot. However, they could still be liable for some damages inflicted to the ticket buyer because of their negligence. Imagine seeing your numbers show up as the winning number only to be told that it was just an error ;D

This is heartbreaking and mental torture imagine all your life you've been wishing to hit the jackpot and when you did it was all an error the lottery company should have corrected the error right away but they let it be posted for three days

Quote
On that day, a set of test Powerball numbers, which matched Mr Cheeks' numbers - was posted on the website "accidentally", according to court documents. Those numbers remained online for three days, until 9 January.

If they corrected it right away and asked for an apology it's still acceptable and they could offer the supposed winner a consolation prize but they let it be displayed for three days, and it's not right, and the supposed winner Mr. Cheeks should be compensated it may not be the whole prize but it should be something enough for the mental anguish its the company's error and this should have not happened in the first place.

This can make a person mentally insane, because the hope in front of their eyes is dashed due to mistakes,
I think it is appropriate for the lottery to be sued for fraud, it is clear that the lottery numbers have been published, why is there the word error in the announcement.
