« on: June 25, 2018, 08:30:24 AM »
Can bitcoin really do anything to solve world poverty problem? Brian Singer certainly think so. He thinks that Bitcoin can bring minimum everyday earning for people more swiftly than any other economy system.

Is it possible?

Cryptocurrency discussions / Which wallet is the best?
« on: June 22, 2018, 05:17:36 PM »
It really depends on what altcoins you're going to invest in. I recommend paper wallets if you are going to hold the coins for a long time but if you want to use your coins then your best choice would be a desktop wallet. Preferably on a computer that you don't use for other purposes, to make sure that your wallet doesn't get compromised by hackers. Web-wallets like others mentioned are fine if you want all-time access to your coins but keep in mind that you give the responsibility of your coins to someone you don't know. However it's fine if you want to hold small amounts of coins. A safe way to create paper wallets for Bitcoins can be found here: https://www.weusecoins.com/bitcoin-cold-storage-guide/ .

Cryptocurrency discussions / best exchange for traders
« on: June 22, 2018, 05:14:43 PM »
1. Security: If the exchange offer 2FA or not and where the funds are stored. If it's not in cold storage, don't use it. If they get hacked, your funds are  gone forever.
2. Reputation: This is based on the reviews you read about exchanges.
3. UI/UX: Not many people take this in consideration but I do. If there are multiple exchanges with the same security measures and reputation, I will take the most attractive one in UI terms and the one that give a better user experience.

I personally don't mind paying an extra fee If the exchange is worth it. I suggest using Binance, Bittrex, Hitbtc and staying away from exchanges like Yobit and Liqui.

Bitcoin Forum / If no one spends bitcoin what might happen?
« on: June 22, 2018, 05:03:53 PM »
For me, In my opinion, I think we will be stuck in one price or maybe worse we will all go down.

Here is what happened when US citizens are saving too much.

Quote
That's important because American spenders make up the majority -- about 70% -- of economic activity in the country. If people don't spend, the economy doesn't grow.

Bitcoin Forum / What's going on? Bitcoin for the rich only?
« on: June 22, 2018, 05:00:36 PM »
Even just a year ago bitcoin was useable. Now the fees are about 10x what the banks charge. Seems like its changing from a peer-to-peer money system for everyone into yet another convenient way for rich people to exchange funds!

What went wrong> And more to the point, who is responsible? What can be done to fix it?

Philippines (Tagalog) / PNB looks into use of bitcoin!
« on: June 19, 2018, 04:08:04 PM »
Top official of the Philippine National Bank (PNB) vows to study bitcoin amid Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) accepting stance on cryptocurrencies. PNB chair Flor Gozon Tarriela said they are looking at bitcoin and blockchain technology very cautiously but stressed the bank is not into it yet. “PNB will closely study the disruptions going on in the financial sector. We want to know more about the trends. We want to be aware of what is happening. But as to our plans to venture, we are not into it yet,” said Tarriela, adding that they are in the process of studying its dynamics and its possible effects to the banking business. A bitcoin is a cryptocurrency and worldwide payment system. It is the first decentralized digital currency, as the system works without a central bank or single administrator. While it recognized the potential benefits of virtual currencies as it facilitate the movement of funds at a much faster, cheaper, and convenient way, the BSP is equally cautious of the potential risks including illicit activities such as money laundering and terrorist financing.

It has advised the public that they have to be conscious of the opaqueness of transactions involving bitcoins. To minimize risks, the BSP encouraged existing and prospective virtual currency users to deal only with BSP-registered virtual currency exchanges and maintain only a sufficient amount of virtual currency enough to address transaction requirements. BSP warned that virtual currency users should properly secure their virtual currency holdings and observe security tips to protect the confidentiality and integrity of personal information and transaction details. “The BSP still has to issue regulations on this virtual currencies. But, we, in the banking industry advocate the know-your-customer first,” said Tarriela. PNB’s thrust this year is to go digital. Tarriela said they have launched mobile banking apps to cater to the needs of the tech-savvy market. “The way to go, really, is digital,” she said, adding that this will also help them reach out to the unbanked population.

Cryptocurrency discussions / Alternative Block Chains : be safe!
« on: June 19, 2018, 03:59:00 PM »
I haven't seen anybody post about what would be my biggest worry if I were trying out alternative block chains. I realize this may be perceived as "Gavin is FUD'ding anything that isn't bitcoin!"  (FUD == Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt)  But I think some of you might be forgetting some basic computer security fundamentals in the excitement to be early adopters.

When I first heard about bitcoin, my questions were:

1) Can it possibly work (do the ideas for how it works make sense)?
2) Is it a scam?
3) If it is not a scam, could it open my computer up to viruses/trojans if I run it?

I answered those questions by:

1) Reading and understanding Satoshi's whitepaper.  Then thinking about it for a day or two and reading it again.
2) Finding out everything I could about the project.  I read every forum thread here (there were probably under a hundred threads back then) and read Satoshi's initial postings on the crypto mailing list.
3) Downloaded and skimmed the source code to see if it looked vulnerable to buffer overflow or other remotely exploitable attacks.

If I were going to experiment with an alternative block-chain, I'd go through the same process again. But I'm an old conservative fuddy-duddy.

If you want to take a risk on a brand-new alternative block-chain, I'd strongly suggest that you:

1) Run the software in a virtual machine or on a machine that doesn't contain anything valuable.
2) Don't invest more money or time than you can afford to lose.
3) Use a different passphrase at every exchange site.

Cryptocurrency discussions / Why the price of bitcoin so high?
« on: June 19, 2018, 03:57:07 PM »
Bitcoin is the original one, so is it superior. I believe that altcoins are followers of bitcoin and should be put after bitcoin. When a person newly gets involved to cryptocurrency, he must know the bitcoin first in order to understand crypto world. The reason of price rise in bitcoin, is because bitcoin is nominated worldwide and is acceptable at most places, whereas people are mostly not aware of altcoins.

Best to do in that reward are sell 60% and hold 40% because the possibility to go high and go low are there but some coins have already value so it's still good to sell and buy if you like. I think base on my experience for holding many tokens here that i received they always go high but it takes time like 3 to months so even you hold it for so long it can have value.

« on: June 18, 2018, 04:55:49 PM »
I see many people expecting too much from their bitcoin investment within a short period of time while some wait for the maturity in a big way. So it is a short or long term investment for someone planning to invest a big amount of it?
