Thanks for sharing this, it was helpful, although I have left using any services from the Cointelegraph either its newsletters or their news, after they published fake news about ETF back in 2023 which led to a huge drama. Plus there are some other events that have made me unfollow them. I was a big follower of there news.

I used to read the news only from there, but I guess every taste comes to an end. I think they are doing it on purpose, I don't know why I think that but my heart is telling me that.

The amount of money they made from this should be the deciding factor. I mean if they are capable of doing something like this, and not make much money from it, then they have put all this effort for nothing while breaking the law, if someone offered you just 100 dollars to go during the red light, you would be both breaking the law, put others in danger, and yourself in danger, I am not talking about even something major here, most people have done that, I mean I have done it, when no cars were around, I jaywalked, but normally that's illegal. But even in that situation, does it worth the 100 dollars? Mostly not. So either they made a ton of money, or they did something that doesn't worth the effort to do this.

Too many people have been scammed in this way, they will either be lured to expose their seed phrase or to connect their wallet to websites that the scammers will provide. The attackers could also come in the form of a giveaway scam, in which you have to send them any amount for them to double it for you.

People allow their greed to get the better of them, even when the scam is so glaring. Thank you for sharing this for people who are not aware of it.

I don't subscribe to the newsletters of these websites and those that have been might probably have been scammed. I think that they should be liable for anyone that claimed to get scammed with that. But still, they can claim that it's not their fault when one of their subscriber is too gullible and became a victim of these scams. They should always make some reminders that they're not tolerating any scams and all of their viewers and readers must take care of themselves and be aware of scams.

And this is why I have not subscribed to this news website. Scammers want to trap crypto users with tempting offers and scammers have been doing this for a long time. Cointelegraph should think about how the scammers got their subscriber information. Since they are sending fake airdrop targeted emails to Cointelegraph subscribers, that means the data has been leaked.

Thanks for sharing this, hope crypto users will be safe from such fake airdrop mails.

I've been in the crypto space for years already, but I guess I can consider myself lucky for not falling into these kinds of traps... or I'm just intelligent enough compared to these stupid scammers. :P

Anyway, thanks @admin for giving us a warning. These types of warnings might help 1 or 2 newbies out there to not fall into these types of scams. I'm still reading some Cointelegraph articles because as much as I don't want them, sometimes they are making articles that are very informative, and very helpful for me. I just hope that there are only a few people who fall into that trap, and I always believe that investors are becoming more, and more intelligent as years go by thus, they will know how to not get scammed.

Thanks @admin. :)

Thank you for sharing the news, and I hope that no one has lost their money in such a scam, but if their audience is beginners who may not know about this scam, they will most likely believe this trick, so it is better not to subscribe to mailing lists or check several times, research and ask before clicking on any link.

Thanks for the news, but I already came to know about it from an airdrop group, actually Cointelegraph, defi, and one other project were using the same email service, and that got hacked and resulted in the compromisation of the mail of these three platforms. But they all acted quickly and overcame this issue in no time. I might have received such emails from Cointelegraph but I don't rely on emails, as I know the biggest source for hackers and scammers to enter into your PC is using your emails.

So I don't use email as to get aware of something and I think this rule have saved me till now from such scammers,

Cointelegraph were fast to react and sent quickly a warning.

Well, they reacted quickly this time, but user data has been compromised. I don't believe that hackers or whoever is behind this will end up here, not every attempt will be through a fake airdrop.
What a bad advertisement for MailerLite, they have one thing to worry about and they failed to do it.

So I don't use email as to get aware of something and I think this rule have saved me till now from such scammers,
You can and should have different email addresses, the one you use on websites and projects that you do not trust, you can consider email addresses like that as 'spam' addresses, and another email address you use to do important stuff and to register on websites that you trust.

However, people believe in airdrop and giveaway scams because they are greedy, because it is sometimes very obvious that it is a scam.

Cointelegraph is a popular news media, I was big follower for this cointelegraph news from here I gather extensive information. But because of wrong publicity, I perceive them as hateful because they spread the news at a time when I was facing losses. That's why I chose another direction to gather news.

Thanks for the news. It's crazy there's possibility it happened since employee at MailerLate try to crack Windows OS (based on screenshot on the report). Now i wonder whether they plan to switch from MailerLate to different email marketing service?

I think that they should be liable for anyone that claimed to get scammed with that.

What exactly do you mean by they? MailerLite? Cointelegraph? Both of them?

Re: Scam Airdrop target Cointelegraph's subscribers!

Cointelegraph's subscribers got targeted with a scam airdrop.

With a title: Cointelegraph's 10th Anniversary Web3 Exclusive Airdrop!

Cointelegraph were fast to react and sent quickly a warning.

Quote
On Jan. 23, the users of multiple Web3 protocols and companies were hit with a mass phishing campaign by scammers. Over $580,000 worth of crypto has so far been lost in the attack, which used emails sent from the official email addresses of WalletConnect, Token Terminal, Social.Fi and De.Fi, as well as Cointelegraph.

thanks for sharing this in no other CT forum admins. hopefully, everyone who was not aware of it now will be careful after that.

It is very unfortunate to see that hackers and scammers will always figure out a way to breach platforms like these and end up stealing hundred of thousands of dollars from innocent common crypto users. these people shouldn't have paid for all the security vulnerabilities of big news and wallet sites such as Wallet connect.

This time their attack was pretty hard to guess. I think most of the people who received those emails probably got effected because it was not a normal phishing attack. the emails were sent from official addresses so a normal person would've never figured out if they are scams or not.
All our prayers are for the Victoms of this incident. Stay vigilant everyone.

I also received one but since I am not into airdrops anymore I ignore it, and just wait for more updates if it's coming from Cointelegram usually a big news media company will create a huge noise in the Crypto community about this airdrop and there's no article also that covers it, usually before they announce an airdrop a legit airdrop will drop a pre-announcement and they will create an article for that airdrop and not just drop a link.
And so I was right it was a fake airdrop after all.
