Stable Coins Forum / STABLECOINS
« on: May 28, 2024, 09:18:23 PM »
USDT, USDC, and DAI have their own pages here on altcoin. So which stablecoin do you have?

Here are some pros and cons - are there more?

$DAI

Pros:
- Decentralization: Managed by MakerDAO, ensuring no central authority controls the coin.
- Collateral Backing: Backed by a variety of cryptocurrencies, enhancing stability and reliability.
- Dai Savings Rate (DSR): Users can earn interest by locking their DAI in the DSR contract.

Cons:
Complexity: Mechanisms involving collateralized debt positions (CDPs) and smart contracts can be complex for new users.
Volatility Risk of Collateral: Backed by volatile cryptocurrencies, which can affect DAI’s stability during extreme market fluctuations.
Governance Risk: Relies on the decisions of MKR token holders, which can impact stability and usability.

$USDT (Tether)

Pros:
Market Dominance: High liquidity and acceptance across numerous exchanges and platforms.
Stability: Pegged to the US dollar, providing price stability.
Ease of Use: Facilitates quick and low-cost transactions between exchanges and wallets.

Cons:
Centralization: Issued and controlled by Tether Limited, raising concerns about transparency.
Regulatory Scrutiny: Faces regulatory scrutiny and legal challenges, creating uncertainty.
Audit Concerns: Ongoing concerns about the lack of comprehensive audits to verify reserve claims.

$USDC

Pros:
Transparency: Issued by regulated financial institutions with regular attestations of reserves.
Stability: Fully backed by the US dollar and audited monthly.
Regulatory Compliance: Operates under strict regulatory standards, enhancing trust among users.

Cons:
Centralization: Issued by a consortium (Centre) and controlled by regulated entities, leading to centralization concerns.
Regulatory Risk: Subject to regulatory changes that could impact its operations.
Limited Use Cases: Primarily used for trading and transfers, with fewer DeFi applications compared to DAI.

Dai Forum / DAI and New Stablecoins
« on: May 27, 2024, 04:07:03 PM »
Hey everyone,

With MakerDAO introducing new stablecoins as part of the Endgame plan, I wanted to get your opinions on whether you’ll be sticking with DAI or switching to one of the new options. Here’s what I’ve gathered:

MakerDAO is introducing two new stablecoins: NewStable (NST) and PureDai (PDAI).

Users will have the option to upgrade their DAI to these new stablecoins.

NST is geared towards mass adoption, while PDAI focuses on extreme resilience and decentralization.

Which one are you leaning towards and why?

DeFi tokens / MKR or the New Governance Token?
« on: May 27, 2024, 04:05:13 PM »
Hey everyone,

I’ve got some MKR and with MakerDAO’s Endgame plan rolling out, I’m wondering if I should exchange it for the new governance token, NewGovToken (NGT). Has anyone done a deep dive or analysis on this and want to share their insights?

Here’s what I know so far:

As part of the Endgame plan, MakerDAO is launching NGT, which will replace the current MKR governance token.
Existing MKR holders can convert their tokens to NGT at a rate of 1 MKR to 24,000 NGT.

Are you planning to exchange your MKR for NGT? Why or why not?
Do you think the new governance structure will improve MakerDAO's decision-making process?

Women in Crypto / Equality

Since many users have anonymous profiles some male profiles may be females and vice versa.  Is crypto the way for females to get equal pay for the same kind of work as males?

General Discussion / Why crypto?
« on: May 14, 2024, 12:56:41 AM »
When, how, and why did you get involved in crypto?

Is it because of earning some cash with trading or because of a job? Or do you believe it is the next big thing?

Whenever I tell people that I work in the legal space in crypto they always ask for advice on which coins to buy, however, I have no real clue about that. I also get the impression that most people in my proximity believe that Bitcoin is the only cryptocurrency out there..

Crypto Wallets / Transferring coins between platforms/wallets
« on: May 07, 2024, 04:32:46 PM »
I've recently bought some MKR (MakerDAO's governance token) through Kraken. However, I can't connect Kraken to MakerDAO's voting platform. Can I transfer my MKR from Kraken to my MetaMask wallet without having to sell and rebuy? I bought the MKR at a higher price, so selling now would mean taking a loss. I'd love to participate in MakerDAO governance with the MKR I have. Any advice?

Legality & Taxation of Cryptos / Crypto nomads and taxation
« on: May 03, 2024, 05:49:16 PM »
Crypto offers freedom for digital nomads but it also introduces complex tax questions. For those of us without U.S. citizenship—where citizens are taxed on worldwide income regardless of where they live—the question becomes: where do we declare our crypto earnings? With Starlink, trading or earning in crypto while traveling has never been easier.

But how do you handle tax obligations in a world that hasn't yet fully adapted to the nomadic lifestyle fueled by digital currencies? Do you declare taxes in the country of your citizenship, your residence, or where you are physically located while trading? And which country is the best to be a tax resident in when it comes to crypto?

Cryptocurrency discussions / Anonymity - good or bad?
« on: April 23, 2024, 07:32:23 PM »
How many of us use aliases in the crypto world? It's fascinating how biases related to sex, age, skin color, or body type seem irrelevant here—it's purely about your ideas and actions. I was on a call the other day, the presenter used a voice changer and there was no video. It felt freeing to engage purely based on the exchange of thoughts.

However, this anonymity has its downsides, it's easy to get scammed. Additionally, there are legal concerns, especially regarding taxation. Some countries are even reducing anonymity to prevent tax evasion. What do you think is a good balance between maintaining privacy and reducing potential misuse in the crypto space?

Stable Coins Forum / Accepting Stablecoins for Big-Ticket Items?
« on: April 22, 2024, 12:10:52 AM »
Hola! I'm considering accepting stablecoins as payment for selling my boat. Would you consider accepting stablecoins for transactions above 100 000K? If so, which stablecoins would you trust enough to use, and why?

Keen to hear your thoughts and experiences!

I was about to do a transaction and the gas fee was very high! Any advice on how to get the lowest gas fees? I have looked at the heatmap, and I can see that at certain times and days, it's a bit lower. Any advice for a newbie?

Thanks!!

Dai Forum / DSR
« on: April 02, 2024, 10:52:39 PM »
Hey everyone,

I've holding some Dai and I'm wondering what to do next. I'm to utilize the Dai Savings Rate (DSR) to earn some interest. I'm curious about the ease of use, reliability, and overall experiences anyone had with DSR.

How straightforward is the process of putting Dai into DSR and are there any fees involved?
Have you found the interest earnings to be satisfactory, it seems to be pretty high right now.
Is it easy to withdraw whenever you need, or are there any catch?
Any other tips or things I should be aware of before making the move?

I appreciate any experiences or advice. Thanks!!
