Title: Polkadot's Potential as a Global Supercomputer
Post by: GraysonDigital on July 05, 2023, 12:00:17 AM
I just came across an interesting vision for the evolution of the Polkadot network shared by Gavin Wood, at the recent Polkadot Decoded event, that still really has me thinking. Wood outlined Polkadot's potential to serve as a global, multi-core supercomputer, offering computing resources to a wide range of decentralized applications in an efficient manner.

Currently, projects connect to Polkadot through auctioning for limited parachain slots. However, Wood envisions Polkadot utilizing more flexible mechanisms to cater to projects of different scales and stages. As Wood said: "Polkadot should be an integrated system, a single computer on which many applications run."

This evolution would allow Polkadot to better serve the full range of potential users, from startups and hobbyists to large institutions. Beyond parachain slots, Polkadot could offer:

Cloud-type access, allowing projects to pay for the computing resources they need on demand
Preferential access for projects already running on the network
Additional options for smaller projects that can't bid high enough for a parachain slot

Overall, this vision presents Polkadot in a new light - not just as a network of independent parachains, but as a unified global supercomputer. Seems like the future of Polkadot is ever evolving and becoming stronger day by day.

At a fundamental level, the global Polkadot network acts like a supercomputer with approximately 50 “Cores” upon which Parachains operate.

But this words we know if Polkadot a bit problem , and how if Super Computer already attacked by Malware??
I mean , Global Supercomputer is very risk like as Server Global centralized , if Server Centralized got hacked , of course parachains of Polkadot also was hacked.
As for the weakness at this point, I haven't seen any further explanation, especially as anticipated by Gavin Wood. OP could later add various information related to this thread about Super Computer Global, which was initiated by the Parachains Polkadot coin.

To me, Global Supercomputer is just a hyped concept when blockchains introduce themselves. Blockchains are simply systems that process and store information about accounts: balance + history. The existence of smart contracts to facilitate the interaction between accounts is not enough to consider blockchains as Global Supercomputers.

In my opinion, Global Supercomputer must be a powerful computing system that meets the needs of users related to programming, designing, editing, storage... Filecoin is just a blockchain that manages storage indexes on the basis of Decentralized data, or a few projects that take advantage of the computing power of nodes to train AI, are just a small part of creating a Global Supercomputer.

As for Polkadot, I still consider it the most powerful and potential Layer-0 project, superior to Cosmos in many aspects. Polkadot should be seen as a cross-chain transaction processing center in the crypto market, instead of a Global Supercomputer.

Gavin Wood focus on making Polkadot more flexible for different types of projects is really important. With Polkadot,... projects can access computing resources like they would with a cloud service and would only pay for what they need. This mean that Polkadot can be used by all kind of users from small startup to big companies. Polkadot also wants to give special access to projects already using the network and offer other options for smaller projects that cant afford a full slot. This shows that Polkadot wants to be fair and open to everyone.
The idea of Polkadot being a global super computer is really cool. It means that the network can change and can adapt to what people need..., making it a great platform for decentralized apps. Polkadot is always getting better and growing... and Im excited to see what happens next.
I am looking that polkadot is really good project and they are trying to develop more and more fair for the users

It will be a long time before we use blockchain as an important part of our lives similar to how we use internet, everything can change. At this time, I am interested in DOT as a financial tool instead of a technology project for mass adoption in practice.
If possible, Bitcoin and Ethereum blockchains will become global supercomputers, then other blockchains will join and compete for this market share.

You're right, I agree with your opinion.
Bitcoin and Ethereum are more popular and more possible become a global supercomputer than other.
I use polkadot only for my investment

Well, I feel the same as you, right? lol
It seems that this Supercomputer is just a concept that has just been designed because of the popularity of Blockchain.
Maybe it's like the saying, when there is something new there will definitely be competitors who keep popping up, for example we are living in the "Blockchain" era.
So, however, everyone will definitely look for ways to continue to compete with Blockchain, even though Blockchain is the same as you said, namely: "Blockchains are simply systems that process and store information about accounts: balance + history." Well, maybe we'll wait for the final results from the Supercomputer.
