Cryptocurrency discussions / Re: Why Cryptocurrency Is Great!
« on: November 10, 2020, 10:53:48 AM »
I believe the reason why cryptocurrencies are great today because of the technology behind it. Without the Blockchain technology, there will be no cryptocurrencies to be made into existence thats why the Blockchain technology is the reason why cryptocurrencies today are Capable, Faster, and Efficient form of Digital asset.

I totally agree with you... Blockchain play a crucial role in cryptocurrency in time of distribution, security and flexibility

Sorting Box / Simplest Way To Generate PGP Key?
« on: September 30, 2020, 08:17:56 AM »
Hey everyone. Not sure if this is the right section but I've been asked to encrypt a message and I'm having difficulties generating my key. I'm trying to do it on ubuntu and am following this youtube guide:

But I can't seem to figure out how to generate a key as when I get to the part where it should generate after clicking ok nothing happens. In the video his system is called 'passwords and encryption keys' whereas mine is just 'passwords and keys'. Not sure if his is an older system or not. Can anyone explain how to do it or is there an simple idiot proof way to do so??? I can use a windows computer to try it but would prefer to keep it to ubuntu if possible. Thanks.

Bitcoin News & Updates / Illegal Exchanger Shutdown By Police
« on: September 30, 2020, 12:59:39 AM »
The St. Petersburg police closed a cryptocurrency exchanger belonging to an organized group of scammers. They stole money from bank cards and transferred it into bitcoins.
Fraudsters under the guise of bank employees phoned citizens and convinced them to transfer money to bank cards issued for dummy persons. Money was cashed through ATMs and transferred to bitcoin exchanges.
10 members of the criminal group have been identified. Seven of them were detained in Yalta, Kaliningrad, Ulan-Ude, Khabarovsk and St. Petersburg.
The police received statements from at least 15 victims who transferred more than 2 million rubles to the fraudsters.
To cover up their activities, the attackers launched a cryptocurrency exchanger. The police identified organizers, coordinators and operators of an underground office located in a business center on the Moika River embankment.

Bitcoin News & Updates / 2 Element To Learn Btc
« on: September 30, 2020, 12:57:22 AM »
I read a post the other day asking for tips on how to learn bitcoin without going through the technical stuff (so they can start making profit sooner) and another one looking for a quick way to teach old people how bitcoin works. Here’s what I learned after months of observation and heavy reading on cryptocurrency inside and outside this forum.
There are NO SHORTCUTS to understanding bitcoin. You’ll find crash courses and simplified versions of the technical aspects of bitcoin but those are just to help make complex information more digestible WHEN YOU GO OVER IT AGAIN, not to help you skip certain parts. Yes, you’ll eventually realize that it’s best to re-read the stuff you refused to read the first time (when you thought it’s too much for you). With so many risks involved in cryptocurrency, you would want to know as much information about what you’re getting yourself into as you can. So, taking a shortcut is out of the question.
Think of cryptocurrency as a branch of science, because it’s as big as one. It’s not like a Netflix series that you can binge-watch in one go. Rather, it’s like the entire entertainment industry. Like a college course that takes many years to finish, it will take years of research and experience to master bitcoin. Also, research doesn’t stop as cryptocurrency is constantly evolving. Some of the things you will learn today may no longer apply tomorrow, so continuous study must be part of your daily routine.
Regarding profit, there certainly are various ways to grow wealth through bitcoin. You can invest, trade, gamble, perform tasks, write content, and many more, at least in this platform. But let’s not forget that the primary purpose of bitcoin introduction and adoption is to decentralize the financial system. More than just another income generator, it’s a campaign with a goal. Let’s find a way to contribute to that campaign. I also have a mentor btw so connecting with people who share your interest is also important.

Bitcoin News & Updates / Blockchain Project Tutorial
« on: September 30, 2020, 12:54:29 AM »
Hello all. on terms of Privacy. I am thinking of perhaps starting a Blockchain based project.
What I like is more less over see this project. And I like to make a collaboration. Put together a team remotely and can communicate online.
Put together some type of project that could one day be sell able to the public on based on different concerns etc/
Privacy project or not. I am just interested in putting together something that could benefit others/. I can not really do this all by myself. so i need to do a team
but i really would like feedback on how to make this all happen. Of course I am not taking anyone's idea on the actual project as that idea is not formulated yet.
just like to know when i get an idea of a project. how to go about starting to putting it together in paper form.
Look to all your feedback. need this help thanks

Bitcoin News & Updates / Regular Wallet vs Multisig
« on: September 30, 2020, 12:44:01 AM »
I am just trying to see if I am thinking about this correctly - it seems to me that all other things being equal (physical security and such), a multisig wallet is ORDERS OF MAGNITUDE more secure than a regular wallet.
It seems vastly superior just about from any angle.
Here are my thoughts on this:
1. Obviously, if you use M of N multisig wallet where M < N (2 of 3 , 3 of 4, 4 of 6) you automatically get a failsafe in case you lose one of your keys (or master seed if you used a separate HD wallet based on new master seed derivation). With a regular wallet - if you lose the master private key and seed - you are sunk, that's it, there is no recourse. It's a single point of failure.
2. If you use different devices / sources of entropy to derive master seed phrase -such as hardware device, rolling die, software construction via strong CSPRNG library (say Electrum) - that further lowers your chances of someone brute-forcing your seed to due accidental weak source of randomness in one particular setup. 1 out of 2^256 is nearly 0 anyway, but chances of brute forcing two or three of those are even more ridiculous. The same logic in terms of lowering your risk of using a single compromised device - if you use multiple physically independent devices to generate your keys, it seems you dramatically lower your chances of being pwned.
3. If you have a 2 of 4 setup for instance - you can spend several times from the same address by using different key combinations to sign the transaction - without giving away any privacy, unlike a regular address where every new signature to spend from that address could potentially be used to brute force the private key for that address.
4. The fact that there is a threshold of keys needed to withdraw funds makes multisig more amenable to being stored relatively safely in the cloud. Someone could use Shamir's secret-sharing algorithm to split each master seed, even encrypting it, for additional peace of mind, and storing it on multiple providers' file storage - GDrive, Dropbox, self-hosting, across physical devices. In a 3 of 5 setup, you could store up to 2 seeds in such fashion - and be quite safe in knowing that even if the parties were to collude, break your encryption and assemble 2 of your master keys, that would still not be enough to steal your funds.
5.Does multisig offer more in the way of being resistant to quantum computing cryptanalysis?
What am I missing? Are there any good counterarguments to using multisig vs just a regular [hardware] wallet?
I guess for now multisig transactions are slightly larger (for the spending tx ) but that will hopefully be soon mitigated with Schnorr/Taproot, right?

Bitcoin News & Updates / cryptocurrency For Trading
« on: September 30, 2020, 12:41:47 AM »
The lockdown has helped with the growth of cryptomarket in large scale. This too is experienced in my home state capital. Compared to the past the lockdown months have got a massive increase in the usage of cryptocurrencies on trading. It is true to see most of the tech people around the age of 25 getting into cryptocurrency usage. Particularly most are into trading to make some passive earning as tech giants have come up with big pay cut.
Another important reason for the same is the stocks which weren't that supportive to make some passive income. During the lockdown even the stocks crashed, only the cryptocurrency market stood strong. With the lockdown the city has topped third position in terms of cryptocurrency users and trading volume. Probably this widespread could've happened in the global market too.
