Will Tether (USDT) Be SEC’s Next Target after Ripple’s XRP?

While XRP’s fate is undecided yet, a similar legal action against Tether would be a major blow to other major. Since the SEC hit Ripple Labs with the charges of selling unregistered securities, the cryptocurrency community has been wondering what does this move mean. Some argued it was a huge sign that US regulators are set to ramp up oversight of the cryptocurrency space as Bitcoin surges to uncharted highs.

The Securities and Exchange Commission has largely cracked down on ICOs and similar crowdfunded token sales, but as XRP is classified by the SEC as a security, then the question is: which crypto asset could face the same fire?

While a number of cryptocurrencies and similar assets are under speculation, Bitfinex Tether CTO, Paolo Ardoino has stepped in to assuage concerns and said there is no evidence the SEC is coming after them, too. Source Link

Today tether team need to bring the paper to New York Attorney General  and probably soon will see what is going to happening next,its a very important decision for crypto.

If the executives of Ripple Labs have sold hundreds of thousands of unregistered ripple coins for several years, then filing a lawsuit for this violation can hardly be regarded as an attack on the cryptocurrency by the SEC. If the leaders of cryptocurrency projects violate the law and especially the rights of users of this cryptocurrency, then they should be punished.
At the same time, it was reported that the newly elected US President Biden intends to change the leadership of the SEC to a more loyal to cryptocurrency. So I don't think there is a definite threat to cryptocurrency from the SEC.

I don't think USDT will continue to be the next SEC subject after the lawsuit against Ripple.
First, now Bittrex's proof of reserves secure 1 USDT = 1 USD.
Second, there is hardly any evidence of USDT being printed out in 2017 to manipulate the BTC price in the market.
So the SEC will target other projects, firstly big STO or ICO projects or crypto tax issue

I completely agree with your opinion and your arguments have strong arguments. Hopefully, not only will CES not hamper Tether, but the new US administration will pursue a positive policy towards cryptocurrencies.

That's right and it's totally irrational as Tether keeps printing USDT without any real Fiat collateral.
Moreover, this Tether altcoins created by Bitfinex and Bitfinex are in the United States, the SEC is also in America.

I think that Tether should be careful in the near future as it looks like the SEC is also eyeing an audit of USDT's total finances.
