Vitalik Buterin Confirms Ethereum’s Merge Could Happen in August

The Merge (Proof Of Stake) will be completed in August this year. “As far as we know, if everything goes to plan, August – it just makes sense. If we don’t have to move (the difficulty bomb), let’s do it as soon as we can.” - ethereum core developer, Preston Van Loon.

Vitalik Buterin also reiterated this stance during the ETH Shanghai Summit but also gave more room for potential hiccups, saying The Merge could be in September or October.

I would like to see the possibilities of the updated ethereum as soon as possible, but this event is periodically postponed to a later date. I hope that September-October will be the deadline. There are different forecasts about the further growth of the price of this coin after the update, and I would like the most optimistic of them to come true.

After all the time the community has been waiting and after several delays, I cannot take any statement seriously until it is fact. The word "could" is the key to everything. Could be or could not be, that's why I don't give too much importance to what Buterin says. People are tired of statements announcing something that nobody knows when it will arrive. The community has been waiting a long time to be able to use PoS, but I think these statements may excite many people, if there is another delay later, I don't want to think about what could happen.
