Congratulations to our winners. Rewards will be sent on Sunday.
Can you PM me your LTC address, in case the bitcoin transaction fees become sky high LOL
Nice to see that I finally won something with my price predictions and I was not that far from first place :)

I think bitcoin fees are acceptable now, but if something changes this week with mempool state I will contact you with my Litecoin address.

Binance / Re: Binance CZ founder to surrender passport judge's ruling
« on: April 30, 2024, 11:37:47 PM »
They keep changing and reducing CZ sentence and time he needs to spend in jail from several years to only few months.
This could mean that he decided to work with officials and reveal information about everyone else who was involved with him.
Expect to see a lot more arrest news soon, this circus won't end up with CZ.

Monero Forum / Re: XMRT : Wrapped Monero
« on: April 29, 2024, 05:35:33 PM »
The idea seems contradictory. If wtoken provides the required privacy and decentralization, it will inevitably be removed, as happened with XMR, and if it does not provide these features, its value will inevitably be less than Monero, if we ignore the risks of unbundling.
Please READ before commenting anything about this subject.
This token does NOT provide any privacy at all, it's just a standard erc20 token on ethereum blockchain, but it should have 1:1 peg with XMR on Monero blockchain.
Only purpose for existence of XMRT is liquidity that comes from uniswap and similar exchanges.

Is that actually accurate for your city?
I checked this website with several people around the world and they are accurate for most things, on average.
Restaurants is not something I would check because prices can vary widely depending on city area, quality, inflation, etc.
Numbeo is using multiple sources for price information, and people can make personal contributions.

Quote
Sources and references are:
links to relevant governmental data
links to local supermarket websites with prices
links to local restaurant menus with prices and other relevant sources
links to official public transport price information
links to official taxi prices (or regulated tariff)
other links which can be used to manually verify data provided at this website
other links which can be used to automatically update data at this website

Crypto Wallets / Re: Phoenix Wallet another US ban?
« on: April 29, 2024, 05:22:13 PM »
On Phoenix, you can not open a channel. You can easily just download the wallet and start using the wallet. This is not possible on noncustodial bitcoin lightning network wallet. I can generate invoice for pay on Phoenix without any channel opened for it. Or is there a way on the wallet to open and close a channel?
Phoenix is non-custodial wallet, you have seed words and node is created and operated on smartphone.
If you want option for opening and closing channels try checking out alternative lightning wallet Zeus LN.

You are correct. It is noncustodial. But let us say Phoenix is noncustodial and another lightning wallet like Aqua or others is noncustodial. Will you be able to recover your lightning coins from Phoenix on another lightning network wallet? I think you will need the same noncustodial wallet for the recovery. If Phoenix is gone and not accessible anymore, you money is gone. Or am I wrong?
You can always send sats from your installed wallet to some other wallet even if Phonex is gone.
They are not the only lightning wallet that works like this, and they made this decision because they wanted some protection against US official attacks.

But I think it is possible to create secure environments inside those devices, using stuff such as a hardware wallet.
You can certainly make them better than they are.
Flashing this devices with alternative open source operating systems like GrapheneOS, LineageOS or DivestOS would be the first step.
There is also cheap devices like Maix Amigo that can work great as signing devices and they work similar like hardware wallets.

Basic Questions about Cryptos / Re: Basic Concepts Of Bitcoin Mixers
« on: April 29, 2024, 05:10:02 PM »
It is quite logical that those who want more anonymity do not want to expose themselves in public.
There are some of them in public but not as nearly enough.
I am certain that Saylor and people like him who are only interested in profit dont care about privacy at all.
In fact they prefer for bitcoin to stay the same and that nothing changes, they could be the ones who could turn bitcoin into ideal surveillance tool with mandatory kyc for all wallets, addresses and transactions.

8
Let's see how this works for them, and if it wasn't too late.
Probably next is mandatory KYC....
Smart play from Wasabi team, but there is no guarantee this will protect them from anything.
Phonix wallet did something similar with removing their apps from stores for all US citizens.
People think only US is the problem, but it's not, this is coordinated worldwide attack on people and privacy.

A reminder that running your own node and wallet is perfectly legal.
I always tell people that they can make anything illegal whenever they want, and I am sure they can find holes with bitcoin keys.
Owning a gold was once illegal also.

Suggestion Box / Re: Global mods

Spam is usually more focused on some specific subforums. I'm not saying that we never find spam in the subforum moderated by @bitmover, but depending on the type of spam, like new memecoins, the spam is concentrated in the memecoin subforum, it's just an example. We can also find spam that is posted in many subforums, but this type of spam is always easier to eliminate, since you only have to go to the list of posts of that user. The more activity a subforum has, the more spam it receives.
There are different types of spam, first is the obvious one to everyone, and other one is more subtle and created by members who are using AI generated and semi-plagiarized posts.
When you first look at them they appear to be fine, but cheking whole post history can reveal what they are doing to write generate more posts, that is usually for signature campaign.

Hey, dkbit98, it's really us, decided to post on other popular crypto forums. Our site is under development. Always at your service.
Thanks PCS.
I am glad to see you here, you never know what could happen next with other forum(s), so it's always better to have backup positions ready ;)
It would be a good idea to contact admin here and Teleport your account from bitcointalk forum as soon as possible, you will get higher rank here.

Yeah, i'm aware of Snowden's report. But IMO /dev/urandom (on popular Linux or BSD based OS) is secure enough for most people and it uses various input (CPU is just one of the input source) to generate random binary.
Not really, unless they are using additional encryption, open source bios, and if your computer is offline and not connected to the internet.
Almost everything should be considered compromised now, especially modern smartphones with stock android and iOS operating systems.
Most people are not targets yet, but I think they will become soon, maybe in next 5 to 6 years.

Good question, because surely there must be other privacy focused wallets and services under their radar, i saw a few people mentioning Wasabi in bitcointalk, i don't know if it is just speculation or if there is actually any hint at that.
It's possible Wasabi could be next, but I think they played a bit smarter game than Samourai developers.
Coinjoin is not illegal, but they can always make some bitcoin address connections with ''hackers'' and blame them for them.
Government is so very lucky to always have ''evil'' hackers from N.Korea and other countries for that purpose  :P

Yeah, most likely Wasabi and Sparrow are now in the cross-hair of the US government agency and maybe just gathering enough data to nail down the owners just like what they did to Samourai.
There is no real reason to touch Sparrow wallet.
They didn't directly do anything except providing different interface to Samourai wallet, and in latest version they removed all that from their code.

The next to fall? It could be another wallet, a mixer, or anything that makes them think it's used to launder money, which is really stupid. That is why it is normal that every day there are more services available only on .onion domains. It's not always about hiding something, but about being able to use it freely.
Or maybe a cryptocurrency forum?  :-\
They like to mix things, so maybe they will take a break and move on some exchange next.
Now would be the best time to improve security and privacy for any crypto service.

There is one interesting little website called Numbeo that can be useful for comparing cost of living in different countries around the world.
You will see big difference in some countries and cities, but it would be cool if someone could ''fork'' Numbeo or make Bitnumbeo and make it work with bitcoin or sats units, instead of only standard fiat currencies.

Although, I won't deny that it would be a coup if you could suddenly start paying for subscriptions via Stripe using crypto.
I think I had Stripe account years ago, but I don't miss it at all.
There are plenty of payment cards that support cryptocurrency payments now, so even if Stripe someday adds support for stablecoins it would be anything revolutionary.
I am reading all the news with a big dose of reservation, until I have multiple confirmations, everyone wants only growing numbers and sensational news.

Crypto Wallets / Phoenix Wallet another US ban?
« on: April 26, 2024, 08:03:42 PM »
According to latest tweet Phoenix wallet will be removed from Android and iOS app stores in few days.
They are recommending users from this region not force-closing of channels, because of significant on-chain fees.
Phoenix Wallet is currently one of the best non-custodial lightning network wallets.
