Being wealthy and well-known tends to put a person in a position of stronger influence. It has always been like this, the phenomenon just got a lot stronger as social media gained traction. Sometimes people like this have genuine authority in given topics, other times their expertise is questionable. So I'd say we should always be cautious and not just follow others blindly. In the case of Elon Musk, it is worth looking into his possible motives behind saying certain things, the power he has over people's decisions, and whether or not he is talking about a topic he is knowledgeable in. I personally take a lot of his declarations with a grain of salt.

Pump & Dump / Re: Do traders WANT projects to pump and dump the price?!
« on: November 28, 2022, 05:44:00 PM »
Such price manipulations are not great, and a lot of people get burnt with them. However, I do think you can ride the waves and profit from them if you know what you are doing - take advantage of them rather than blindly follow the crowd.

Like others have noted, if WW III breaks out, we will have more to worry about than the existence of cryptocurrency. With the kind of weapons there are today, the population of the Earth at large could be in danger. If western culture survives, though, I would assume cryptos would survive as well.

A little strange, given how its price is not exactly high right now

It's just the bear market indeed, in my opinion. Not necessarily an indicator that there's something wrong with DeFi specifically. Investor sentiment all over the world is not in favour of high-risk assets nowadays.

HODL if I trust the coin, avoid panic selling, use it as an opportunity to buy in. Trading on a shorter time frame can also work if one wants profits in the foreseeable future.

Trading is all about the long game, as well. It's not individual wins or losses that matter when we talk about profitability; what matter is the result these wins and losses add up to over a long period of time.

Cryptocurrency discussions / Re: Paper Money vs. Digital Currency
« on: September 26, 2022, 02:00:29 PM »
Interesting question. Blockchain technology can add a lot of security to how we store our money and carry out transactions. Some people are already distrustful about the trend of using less and less actual paper money and more and more card and bank transactions, though. Educating people about the technologies underlying finance could help in my opinion.

Cryptocurrency discussions / Re: regulating cryptocurrency
« on: September 26, 2022, 01:56:14 PM »
For a long time, cryptocurrencies were considered quite niche. Governments are often not unaware of them, they just don't feel they have a big effect on mainstream finance. Executing regulations is also a tough question with how blockchains are built. The biggest question really is what route regulations will take in the future.

XRP - Ripple Forum / Re: Ethereum, Ripple or Litecoin?
« on: September 12, 2022, 04:56:51 PM »
Like many others, Ethereum would be my first choice. I believe Ripple and Litecoin are also promising, but I wouldn't put all my eggs in one basket - in other words, I believe diversification is generally important, whichever coins you prefer.

XRP - Ripple Forum / Re: XRP or ETH??

Both? If you held a gun to my head I would say Ethereum, but I think both ETH and XRP have a rightful place in a diversified crypto portfolio.

XRP - Ripple Forum / Re: Ripple the next bitcoin?
« on: September 12, 2022, 04:50:33 PM »
If we look at market capitalization, I doubt Ripple will catch up, but it is certainly very popular. When comparing different cryptos, we also cannot ignore the difference between them. That said, Ripple seems to have great prospects, I am positive about its future at this point in time.

Cryptocurrency discussions / Re: KYC at the end of bounty

I see this is kind of a trap, it's true what the op said, using passports for KYC feels so unfair, not all of us have prior plans to travel abroad and have passports, of course not.

It's not only passports, though, is it? All KYC verifications I have gone through accept ID cards (as well as drivers' licenses)

Cryptocurrency Trading / Re: Are alt coins a good investment?
« on: September 02, 2022, 10:29:21 AM »
There are many platforms for investing in crypto. All is right but altcoins are also good. It's something to think about It is expected that altcoins could be worth around $250 trillion by 2030. But given that 20000 coins is currently up today. Good altcoins can have a heavy footing on these

Yes, the outlook for the future is quite positive. Now a big variable to watch is whether regulations will be placed - sadly, strict regulations have a lot of power over the price of altcoins and other cryptos.

It's an interesting article. I guess it's not surprising that some crypto companies cut the number of workers - on a company level this happens regardless of sector. Overall, though, I do believe the need for crypto experts and blockchain developers is and will be on the rise.
