What's your take on coin/token shilling?
« on: July 08, 2019, 03:22:22 PM »
We have already seen in the past that some influencers have used this method already to pump their bags then dump to their followers that is why when we see/read someone shilling a coin or token, the usual reaction for most of us is to avoid it. But what if what's being shilled is also one of your bags? Would you say that it is bad and people should avoid it? I guess not.

I think many of the top cryptos today (even bitcoin) has been shilled at some point. This makes shilling not necessarily a bad thing. So what should be done when we see a coin/token being shilled? You can either ignore or dig deeper and see what makes it unique (and profitable).

Opinions?

Well the time of collecting and stocking coins and tokens are almost over because we can really see it now. Everything started to move but it's still a good chance to hunt some new coins and for my long term I'm currently trying to stock more LTC and ETH than on bitcoin.

I would not mind my bags being shilled also but I guess it only becomes a bad thing when they (shillers) starts spreading false information just to make people buy.

When I was a newbie I made the mistake to buy those shilled coins. Most of the times I lost money. I think the best thing to do is to unfollow those shillers and help new people to know about these scams. I think shilling is kind of a scam

I really hate the idea behind it but if its your bag then you might have something to smile about especially when you know when to sell

Calling it a scam is pretty strong. I also had my share of losses due to these shillings but I never really called it a scam. There are some that turns out to be good. Shillers always have that motive of course but you, as a reader, are still responsible for checking the legitimacy first before going in.

By The Way, I don't understand the words Shilling and Shiller, can the OP provide further information and more broadly than the meaning of the words Shiller and Shilling ?
I am really interested in discussing these 2 words because I just read and saw them for the first time.

And why can it be said (at least) to be a SCAM ?

Regards

I don't buy a shilled coin, but I like it when I got it from ICO and later on some twitter guy shills it :D People should do their own research, if they buy a coin which made 20x from ico, they normally should take a step back and think about it. But people generally jump onto it.

Youtubers are shilling because they are holding some bags in their portfolio. They want the newbies to enter that coin so that when the price will pump they will sold their bags. Been there I followed last time a shilled coin then guess what I get rekt by my decision.

In crypto, when someone promotes his or her own portfolio (the coin s/he owns) with the intention of selling it at a good profit, that is usually referred to as shilling. A shiller is someone who do shilling. Others may have a slighlty different description.

But if you compare this term "shill"with the dictionary meaning, they are different in meaning.
According to Wikipedia:
The shilling is a unit of currency formerly used in Austria, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, United States and other British Commonwealth countries. The shilling (1/-) was a coin worth one twentieth of a pound sterling, or twelve pence.

I think shilling of a coin is simply means listing a coin/ token from the last decimal place, that is, from $0.00000001 ( 8 gwei) for trading.

It is hard to say whether it is bad or good, but you need to take into account the fact that you can get the benefit from any situation. Sometimes I see a negative news background specially created around a certain coin or project in order to lower its price and purchase more coins, and then artificially raise the price and sell the previously purchased coins. But we can use these situations and make a profit in the same way.

Zion already said "In crypto". I think that implies the word shilling has a different meaning when it comes to cryptocurrencies. If you are active on social medias where crypto is discussed often like twitter or reddit, you should have read of this term already. Do not get stuck with definitions on wiki, google, or other sites.

I got the information!
The shilling can be said to be a mask to sell bad coins into a good coin with such charming charm.

Can we give the "Shiling" maker to Bitcoin Gold ??
Because Bitcoin Gold is like a coin that Dev they don't develop and now price from Bitcoin Gold always Decrease .
