Badges that encourage spamming the forum..
« on: May 02, 2024, 10:53:11 PM »
Hi ladies and gents..

Talking about forum spamming and all that, which I believe is something we all, or most of us frown to, I came across this thread in my local board, which while replying to a comment there, reminded me of a badge I won sometime in 2020, and that also reminded me how I had to spam the forum that day, to win that badge 😂, here is the badge below..

And here is even another I've not yet won, and may never win, since I can't win this without spamming the forum again 😩

So, there are no rewards whatsoever, that comes with owning any of this badges, but still, newbies (having nothing important to do with their time and looking for how to keep themselves busy) may decide to chase after owning one or both of this badges, and they are
First screenshot - Too Active - 25 posts in one day
Second screenshot - Super active - 50 posts in one day

And this process, they end up spamming the entire forum with irrelevant stuffs, back in September 2020, on one boring Wednesday, I was a newbie then(before teleporting), I discovered the "too active" badge requiring 25 posts in one day, I decided to chase and earn it, I made alot of rubbish posts on the forum and on different boards that day (won't lie), I earned it in the end, but not without spamming the forum.
So, coming up with this thread, is not me making anything up, but based personally experience..
Is it really worth it keeping this two badges? Knowing fully well that it encourages spam?

these are not badges that encourage spamming, they are to allow mods to have a better idea of user behaviour
as you can see, i use the term too active

established users doesn't change much, but if we see these badges on a new user, we check posts to see if this is a spammer

25 posts in day is overwhelming how much more for 50, well, unless you are a mods who is regularly moving threads since its counted as new post as i presumed the same on bitcointalk.

As for its purpose, admin is correct for mods identify users behaviour especially in lower rank or new accounts.

The first time I saw this badge, I said to myself that this badge is something that is not for me. It's hard to achieve as I have other tasks to do in my life, a job and responsibilities to look for. I mean, reaching that many posts requires being active in a day, or just like PX-Z says, unless if you are someone managing the forum, posting different updates or replies mostly to the questions and so on.

late but still congratulations having that too active member Badge though I don't think I can do that in my entire career because i May be active but actively reading and posting .

these are not badges that encourage spamming, they are to allow mods to have a better idea of user behaviour
as you can see, i use the term too active
its nice hearing that from you admin because it can be a wrong perception for others wanted lots of badges in their profile when i see nothing important about badges because for me ? engaging and helping others is much better than just badges.

I think it's not too difficult to achieve those badges without spamming, but one need to spend at least a full day to achieve 25 to 50 posts that day and most of the posts won't cross 500 characters.

I can personally achieve those badges but I'm not interested in having it because the time doesn't allow me to achieve it as of now. However, if I have more free time in future then I will try to achieve those badges.

On bitcointalk in a good day I can even make 75 posts LOL

The number always should not be a scale to measure the spam. A one word post can be something very interesting and on topic where a wall of text like JJG [he is not a shitposter obviously] can be a spammer.

50 posts in a single day? Nah, man, I can't do that. Even 25 posts is too much for me to achieve unless I spam. If it were Bitcointalk, maybe yes. But in altcoinstalks, it's not my cup of tea. Unless I'm a moderator or campaign manager who has to give regular updates, etc. Or if I were someone who keeps posting logs and statistics regarding the forum, for example, in Bitcointalk, many reputed members have their own threads where they post information such as merit history, top merit earners, or those who are close to the next rank, etc. ;)

Is it really worth it keeping this two badges? Knowing fully well that it encourages spam?

if they exist it means that the staff knows how to establish whether you are spamming or not
it is no coincidence that the supreme admin replied to you and told you that they are expected and that spam is "conceived" and "looked at" equally
so I wouldn't worry about that

Sometimes we worry about problems that don't exist

these are not badges that encourage spamming, they are to allow mods to have a better idea of user behaviour
as you can see, i use the term too active

Badges are achievements.  Basically rewards.
I don't think adding a badge for this is appropriate, semantically.

Maybe the user could have a red dot under his username or something like that with an ALT text written "25 posts per day"

Respond to users, move threads/posts, explain things about the forum to new users, delete posts... These badges do not encourage or reward spam, they indicate which users have had periods of high activity, since the same level cannot always be maintained. I have the 25 posts in a day badge and I can assure you that it is not spam or meaningless posts. There are also some users (who are not moderators) who were and are also very active without having anything to do with spam.

I think you have been confused with the users in the "zoom 1" group, which are the users that we can see with the red dot on the profile.

On bitcointalk in a good day I can even make 75 posts LOL
That's a very high number of posts I guess but someone who can give at least 10+ hours a day could easily make 75 posts or more per day.

But, we have to agree that those 75 posts won't be much helpful. I know they won't be spam but those won't be helpful either.

I think other than you, Philipma1957 is also someone who could make that many posts per day. He's too good at posting, that's why he's the top poster of that forum.

25 post a day is not an easy task and because of badges someone would post 50 a day, ah! That is something else.that I can't explain again. And from your explanation the badges are just for fancy and nothing more. And there is no way can achieve those badges without spamming the whole forum. And as I said if care is not taken, he will be reported and gotten a tag in his profile as a spammer or red dot.

I don't pay attention to these badges anyway, but now that admin has plainly started, it offers mods a kind of signal to analyse such a poster, and my instincts about the said user were correct all along. I deleted a handful of his spam posts, but more kept pouring...

This is his profile https://www.altcoinstalks.com/index.php?action=profile;u=98201

He achieved all the posts badges in less than 2 months.
