Title: Will alt coins take over Bitcoin and control the market?
Post by: Domithra on July 02, 2018, 06:19:52 AM
In recent times, alt coins appears to perform incredibly well on the market as the projects has got good teams of late yet most of the coins seems to be affected by the price of Bitcoin. This is largely due to the fact that most exchange sites keep much of the price pairing with Bitcoin, hence, a fall in Bitcoin affecting the coins paired with it. Bitcoin will continue to control the market until perhaps most coins are paired with USD directly.

With the advent of stablecoins, altcoins may be paired with USDT or other stablecoins, however, this has not solved the problem of Bitcoin's dominance. As long as bitcoin is able to rise significantly in price and people believe in it, bitcoin's dominance will continue.

If we see from the condition right now, it is impossible. Bitcoin still holds control of this market. Altcoins always depend on on the fluctuating and market condition of BTC. BTC is up, altcoins will be down, Bitcoin down, the altcoin will be also down, and when BTC is sideway, altcoins will pump

While this is so. However, this will not always be the case. The current state corresponds to the term immature market. Over time, price dominance in the market for one cryptocurrency should disappear. Apparently, after bitcoin, there will no longer be one cryptocurrency that will rise above the rest in terms of capitalization and price centralization in the decentralized cryptocurrency market. However, no one fully knows which way the development of cryptocurrency will go further.

I don't think they can, because many altcoins don't even have their own blockchain. Moreover, to control the market, in terms of capitalization, bitcoin exceeds all altcoins combined, and whales also trust bitcoin more and trade mainly in bitcoin.

Bitcoin is strong and altcoins respond to this force. Bitcoin controls everything, and the moves of altcoins are a reflection of their instability and the revelation of their exchange for trade and performance.

for now it is very unlikely but we don't know what will happen in the future.
because the more advanced the development of technology, the more that will happen. as ethereum is currently doing work to version 2.0, this could make the price even higher.
but if I look at 5-10 years bitcoin will still be the number 1 coin in the market

From the very beginning of the emergence of bitcoin and until now bitcoin is the main cryptocurrency, and only bitcoin sets the pace for the entire cryptocurrency market, and I don't think that even in the future altcoins will have such an opportunity to set the pace for the cryptocurrency market, but of course it still everything depends from big players, because they decide which cryptocurrency should be at first place.

Op have stated the obvious, I was about the say that it will be very difficult for altcoins to ever take over and control the entire crypto market due some reasons which the op have also made mention of the most important one, I will be a good idea for new projects to start paring their coin or token to usd alone, this will not only protect their coin or token price from bitcoins fluctuations, but wil also help the price of their coin or token grow naturally as the project progresses.

Altcoin replacing Bitcoin? Which altcoin?
It will never happen. An altcoin is an alternative coin. Even it is YFI or Ethereum, they will not be able to replace Bitcoin. BTC is the king and father of crypto and this has very worthy value, trusted, and also having the great utility and market cap

I think Bitcoin still the coin which controls the crypto market. There are no other crypto coins that have the power to control the market like Bitcoin. It is a special coin that we can say as the mother of crypto coin, or the king of all crypto coins.  It can make the market grow or decrease because of its current price trend.

What altcoins do you think can control the market? I don't see any altcoins that can control the crypto market. Even Ethereum cannot control the crypto market. Bitcoin deserves to call as the king of crypto coins because it is the only coin that can control the crypto market for years. And no coins are likely to overtake it.

Seriously nobody knows what will happen in the future and nobody knows the future of cryptocurrency but currently bitcoin is the controller of the market and with the current situation I don't think any other altcoin can control the market because even Ethereum that's second most populous coin after bitcoin Ethereum is still been controlled by bitcoin so currently there is no other altcoin that can control the market but anything can happen in the future nobody can judge or conclude yet.

In my opinion, the opportunity for altcoins to replace bitcoin and control the market is very small, because first, many large companies have started investing in bitcoin. Second, bitcoin is the most popular cryptocurrency, and many other factors do not allow altcoins to control the cryptocurrency market.

Altcoins can overtake bitcoin and control the market, But It will take several years again, because No altcoins have popularity like bitcoin. Bitcoin will exist and remains as the King of of crypto currency for several years again.

I see no chance in this position and so pretty much clear that the overtaking of altcoins over bitcoin is an impossible to nail. Altcoins are good and many benefits but there is nothing can compare to bitcoin and the only thing they can do is to follow the rhythm of bitcoin to accumulate good result.

In crypto anything can happen, but when a large number of alt's are paired with Bitcoin on several exchanges, the alt prices will continue to follow the Bitcoin price and vice versa, the altcoin market capitalization amount is also large, like ethereum and the current top 10 coins, maybe not today , but in the future we don't know what will happen

Altcoins are developing very quickly and there is no doubt about that. Some of them may well bypass Bitcoin in the future in terms of capitalization, although now I do not see such altcoins on the cryptocurrency market. However, it is unlikely that new altcoins will have such a high capitalization that this new altcoin could control the market in terms of price.

The price of bitcoin really affects the price of every altcoin in the market even Ethereum, bitcoin pumps they dump then recover later, bitcoin dumps -1%, altcoins will dump - 10% that's how it has been, I don't know if it's because alot of exchanges normally pair altcoins with bitcoin, but there's no crypto exchange(aside DEX) without a btc pair, because bitcoin is the most popular cryptocurrency in the world and most people would like to trade their altcoins against a coin they know about.

That's impossible. For that, it would be necessary for the capitalization of all altcoins to exceed that of Bitcoin, and as we already know that is not so. 1. Altcoins cannot and will not be able to take over bitcoin; taking over does not work with token price alone; but volume and acceptability; also altcoins cannot control the market; at the moment; altcoin dependency on bitcoin is over 50%; a 10% dump in btc means more dump for altcoins. Always do your own research

I have always expected the Altcoins rebellion, because Bitcoin has so many limitations in scalability, it is difficult to understand when Satoshi decided Bitcoin's speed was only 5 tps.
The very developed blockchains such as Ethereum, Cardano, Polkadot, TRON will directly compete with Bitcoin and are ready to topple Bitcoin's throne in the future. This is unlikely to happen but I am still looking forward.

It could also be like that because these altcoins lack the power to beat Bitcoin because Bitcoin has become popular for the first time.

When Bitcoin has appreciated well for many years, it seems like it will continue for a very long time. However, what will happen if it stops in price for a long time or even starts to fall with the continued development of altcoins? I am sure that many will very quickly begin to dump it and switch to more promising altcoins for growth. Then the bitcoin price will drop very low.
You should always remember about such a scenario of the development of events, since Bitcoin is improving very slowly and very many altcoins have long overtaken it in development.

Bitcoin has been well known in the world and will be very difficult for any altcoins to overtake or become the top coin on the market. More than 40% of the crypto market capitalization is owned by Bitcoin, from there I can't think altcoins can control the price movements in the crypto market, if all the altcoins are collected, it might still take some time to shift Bitcoin's position as the control of the crypto market price, actually, it's not controlling, but the altcoin price keeps up with Bitcoin price movements, this happens frequently throughout the year.

Over time, the increase in bitcoins does not affect the selling value of altcoins, why do I say that because when bitcoin is moving fast, other altcoins are still holding out with their parent ETH, which goes slowly towards the moon

BTC is more established than Altcoins. Investors feeling skittish about newer, smaller cryptocurrencies could reasonably be expected to transfer their funds from altcoins to bitcoin while the bear market is in effect. In this situation BTC becomes stronger than ALT.

3 years down the drain and altcoins cannot even dominate their selvs; it tells the truth state and dominance of bitcoin in the crypto currency world. Bitcoin willl remain king of altcoins; while etherum will remain king of altcoins; anything other than that would give us just altcoins and nothing more.

I think that alternative coins will not be able to influence the market, as you said, they are affected by the price of bitcoin. YES, and the hype around bitcoin is already unrealistic, soon everyone will talk about this asset. Therefore, I don't even know what should happen to Bitcoin for it to go down ..

I agree and also believe this will be one of the reason  that will liberate the alts from this Bitcoin price control. All altcoins that are listed in any exchange once paired with USDT along BItcoin and Ehtereum will allow traders to use which ever pair and i know most investors would rather use USDT or any other stable other than BTC or ETH

It is difficult to estimate the entire capitalization of altcoins. We only rely on sources like CoinMarketCap. Despite the fact that many altcoins have inflated capitalization, and there is no trading at all. So Bitcoin will always dominate.

This means that bitcoin is the king of all coins and ethereum is the king of all altcoins.
It is very difficult for altcoins to replace bitcoin. Because altcoins have always followed the price of bitcoin and altcoins cannot be independent without bitcoin.
It is very difficult for all of that to happen

In the cryptocurrency market altcoins most perform well thats sure thing no matter how the crypto market fall, the price value must recover back but not that it will over perform more than bitcoin considering how long it took etherum to rearch the current price, that alone will tell you that altcoins may not easly out perform more than bitcoin.

I agree. For bitcoin, it does not matter that it is expensive and slow. There are coins with faster and cheaper transactions, but those coins have hosts. After all, if something happens to the owner of the coin, it will greatly affect the coin. Imagine that the owner of finance decides to run away, and the coin will fall to the bottom. This will not happen with bitcoin.

Since most altcoins are still tied or paired in trading to bitcoin as most of their base trading coin, Bitcoin will continue to dominate the altcoins and that will kinda make it difficult for altcoins to ever overtake Bitcoin and control the market, until altcions can be traded as separately and not tied to bitcoin, then they might have that chance but not before.

Everything is possible. Despite the high price of over $ 57,000, Bitcoin's dominance has now dropped to 44.9 percent. At the same time, ethereum's dominance has grown to 17 percent. The dominance of other potential altcoins is also growing. Cryptocurrency is developing very quickly, new directions appear from time to time. Therefore, we cannot know what will be ahead of the cryptocurrency and in what direction it will develop further.

The price is not decisive here, although it is very important for the leader of the cryptocurrency. The main thing here is decided by price dominance, that is, how much investors invest their capital in this coin. The desire to invest their money arises from investors when they see the opportunity to get a good profit. That is, while bitcoin as a whole grows in price over a long period of time, investors have a desire to invest in it, and this increases both the price and its price dominance. The only question is whether this state of affairs in the cryptocurrency market will last for a long time. I think not, if only because the cryptocurrency does not stand still and is developing rapidly. And the price of any cryptocurrency cannot grow indefinitely. The bitcoin price of several hundred thousand dollars and above is more like a fairy tale. Still, the higher she grows, the more difficult it will be for her to do this, and there is a limit in everything. Therefore, if Bitcoin is not functionally ahead of other cryptocurrencies, it will inevitably lose its leadership position.

Cryptocurrency is a stage play and full of uncertainty about the final outcome, if we think that Bitcoin can be controlled by altcoins then everyone's level of ownership depends on the various altcoins.
We can play logic, where Bitcoin Cash used to want to beat Bitcoin and it turns out that now Bitcoin Cash is losing prestige by Bitcoin, especially other altcoins that have just arrived and it seems that this realization is difficult to achieve.

In crypto there are no words that are impossible even though we also have to be realistic in analyzing because if it doesn't make sense, it sounds weird too. I agree maybe at this time what you say is true that bitcoin will not be able to replace.
but we also know like ethereum had increased quite sharply some time ago before finally dropping back. indeed at this time it is possible to approach only ethereum other than that it may be very difficult because the market cap is too far from everything that exists today.

I agree with what you said in terms of thinking there is a situation that is impossible in the cryptocurrency space. Anything can happen even though we might think that by what we see has been happening in the market with Bitcoin dominance, we will presume that no ALTs can flip Bitcoin and takeover the market and like you also mentioned, Ethereum has been doing quite well in the recent past and hopefully if there's is any ALTs that will eventually flip Bitcoin, it may well be Ethereum and if that happens, will Bitcoin now be the alt? 🤔

No, Altcoins can't take over the Bitcoin market because everyone and investors prefer Bitcoin to altcoins created after Bitcoin, a lot of altcoins died after Bitcoin was created and I've seen a lot of moments like that in the cryptocurrencies market.
ICO, IDO, IFO tokens are all exactly the same and even difficult to get back up against Bitcoin, for example when Bitcin Dump then all altcoins also Dump.

Assuming we rate altcoins performance at 99% increase and dominance. Then we rate Bitcoin at 200% increase and dominance. Still Bitcoin win.  :D

No matter how well altcoins performance it could not out perform or replace Bitcoin today and of course in the future. Respect to Bitcoin is automatic.

Bitcoin does not control the altcoin market through its high price tag. This is because it has a high level of capitalization from the associated price dominance, expressed as a percentage of the entire cryptocurrency market.
Could Bitcoin ever lose this dominance? Of course it can. Cryptocurrency is developing rapidly, which cannot be said about bitcoin itself. Already, we see that the capitalization of a number of new cryptocurrencies is growing, at the same time, top coins are increasing their capitalization relatively slowly. This process may well lead to Bitcoin losing its leadership.

I do not think this will happen anytime in the future. Because most of the big companies first invest in bitcoin than another altcoin. Different companies may have different altcoins in their portfolio but all of them had a good amount of BTC first. So the power of BTC will increase more in the future and we can see its value beyond our reach.

These are all just fantasies. But there are already more than 13,000 cryptocurrencies on the market, and even if only three thousand of them survive, it will still be quite serious competition for bitcoin. Altcoins are developing rapidly, and bitcoin is almost at a standstill and it would be logical if this state of affairs leads to the fact that after a while it will lose its high level of capitalization. Bitcoin needs to improve, and it doesn't have a strong team behind it. Scattered groups always quarrel with each other and cannot come to any common opinion.

This is already happening slowly and surely. But it would be wrong to represent this process as the seizure of the bitcoin market by altcoins. This is, in fact, an evolutionary process that cannot be stopped and which is absolutely natural for the cryptocurrency market. In any market, everything that is outdated and obsolete is gradually disappearing. And vice versa, everything new and progressive is consolidated. It is already obvious that bitcoin is outdated in many ways. Therefore, time will tell what will happen to bitcoin and altcoins.

Altcoins have potential to be the next bitcoin but I don't think will take  over bitcoin.
Because bitcoin always be the King of crypto currency for the next several years again.

Considering that bitcoin is practically not improving, and altcoins do it very quickly, then it is likely that after some time it will give up its place of the leader to other cryptocurrencies. Nothing is eternal. Kings are also born and die. Someday Bitcoin will stop growing in price and this will be the beginning of its end. Of course, it will not disappear anywhere, but it will not be so popular either.

Yeah, Bitcoin is the first ever coin in crypto ecosystem that influence the movement of market flow whenever it goes. Aside from Bitcoin itself, no other coins nor tokens that can affect Bitcoin system. Negative news and positive news will.

Why should altcoins grab Bitcoin? It is enough that they develop very quickly and diversifiedly and many have bypassed it for a long time in their functionality. At the same time, bitcoin practically stands still and does not improve. No other cryptocurrency has such low scalability. If this continues in the future, after some time, Bitcoin will give up its position as the leader of the cryptocurrency.

It is not easy to take over Bitcoin in value but I am sure Altcoin's total market cap will keep increasing because bitcoin is very costly to buy and small investors can not afford to buy so investors or traders will take more interest in the altcoin to make money. Yes, I entirely agree with you now we have more pairing apart from Btc that is also good for the growth of the altcoins, and that way dependability on Btc is getting reduced but we can not say altcoins will control the market. BTC is still the king of all coins and it is still dominating the market only Ethereum at present keeps increasing its dominance after BTC. Let's see in the next 2-3 years how Ethereum performs.

It is uncertain that any altcoins can be able to overtake Bitcoin now or in near future. Bitcoin is the first crypto, one great advantage that has made it as the king. Obviously, there is no possiblity that any altcoins will over Bitcoin, and if this will ever happen, it gonna be in the long future time. I think has gained ground on the crypto space, any altcoins challenge is not in sight. This is just my opinion.

Bitcoin will still lead the other Cryptocurrency coins, before there is an Altcoin that increases and wants to overtake the price of Bitcoin, Bitcoin will go higher first and will leave the Altcoin.

I don't know if that will be possible or maybe it will pair only with stable coins and I also believe that this will kinda stabilize the influence of Bitcoin on other Alts but I don't know if this will be done by the exchanges. I want to believe that even when most pairs don't have stablecoins pairs, there is always the BTC and ETh pair, so until that is done, BTC will continue to influence Atls price drastically.

This can happen if bitcoin's dominance is lower, it will usually enter the volume of the altcoin so that there is an alt season. Usually we always calculate the dominance of bitcoin to find out when the altseason occurs. Even though it's very difficult even rarely I'm sure in some time it will happen. But, when the current bear market conditions, the movement of altcoins tends to follow the movement of bitcoin.

It is too difficult for altcoins to dominate the cryptocurrency market because Bitcoin's dominance has been strong since it was first created and that has been the case for a long time, and maybe since 2011 Bitcoin has also dominated the cryptocurrency market.
I feel that altcoins are really difficult to compete with Bitcoin in controlling the market because I believe the altcoins market is around 30% compared to the Bitcoin market which has about 70%.

Nothing is impossible in the cryptocurrency market. Especially where it is connected with the popularity of the coin. We've seen a long time ago just how popular Terra was and how quickly it fell. Bitcoin has nothing to brag about, except for the safe operation of the network and popularity. In cryptocurrencies, things change very quickly, often and will continue to change. The current popularity of bitcoin as a whole depends on its ability to grow in price. If bitcoin stops in price terms, and it will happen anyway, then its price and capitalization level will immediately begin to fall. It must be remembered that cryptocurrency is always a moderate risk.

Just one of the big problems of bitcoin is the lack of a cohesive team that could work in one direction. Numerous groups cannot coordinate their actions among themselves, because of this, bitcoin has not been seriously updated for a long time. Its scalability has been the lowest for a long time - about seven transactions per second. With such scalability, how can one claim global adoption of bitcoin as a payment network by billions of people on this planet?
If this continues, then the alternative cryptocurrencies that are rapidly developing now will ever move bitcoin from its current position as the leader of the cryptocurrency. It's only a matter of time.

I don't think so Altcoins will take over Bitcoin but Ethereum is also outstanding reached almost half domination as compared to the Btc and growing at a good pace so I believe at some point Ethereum and Bitcoin domination would same in the future. USD pair coins are also affected when BTC drops but it's good that we have options other than BTC to pair up the coin. If we move all coins to pair up with USDT still I would say the BTC drop will affect the coins because bitcoin is the base currency of the crypto market.

Ethereum may exceed the price of Bitcoin. But I think that this coin will not grow to the current price of bitcoin. Most likely, after some time, bitcoin itself will begin to fall in price, and ethereum will rise. Then it is possible that ethereum will surpass bitcoin in price.
I think that altcoins will eventually displace bitcoin from the position of the leader of the cryptocurrency, since in terms of functional qualities it has long lagged behind altcoins. And it is very difficult for bitcoin to improve, since there is no single cohesive team behind it. Any proposal for change is met with stiff resistance.

altcoins will not be able to do that because the demand for Bitcoin is still higher than altcoins, altcoin price movements depend on the project being developed, when the project has no demand it will automatically collapse, while bitcoin will not be like that.

The possibility of Altcoins surpassing Bitcoin has been seen since the existence of Ethereum, but investors prefer Bitcoin because its high price vitality can make huge profits, the situation is actually almost the same as alt, when the Hype of a new project comes then the new altcoin will pump up the price because of the large number of altcoins. the number of requests, many of the altcoins are paired with stable coins in the crypto market and it is done to reduce the high volatility rate when paired with Bitcoin.

I think that Ethereum is probably the best contender to take over from Bitcoin because of the overall ecosystem. However, there are some people who will not have any issues with the way we are doing this and I think that it will be good to talk about this in the long run. Cryptocurrencies are not the only assets in the market becuase the offerings like apps, projects, and innovative apps have become the biggest deals in crypto now, and they are mostly located within the Ethereum system. Even playing on Bitcasino (https://www.bitcasino.com/) has been friendly to the Ethereum. it will just continue to grow and evolve as we continue to go digital.

There are some interesting ways to deal with the crypto market and I think that this will be a good way to talk about other crypto assets apart from Bitcoin. Ethereum is such a good way to start off your crypto journey because it can become the focal point of the entire industry. Since it can offer the likes of apps and NFTs, I think that Ethereum will continue on the path to becoming the top asset, possibly exceeding Bitcoin in the near future. However, I think that there will still be some good ways to deal with this in the long run because there have been some interesting topics that have been brought up in the crypto community regarding other crypto coins like Tether which is pegged to the US Dollar. Stability is needed and people think USDT and Ethereum can be the answers to that problem, veering away from the Bitcoin market too.

The price of bitcoin really affects the altcoin market. But this is not because altcoins are traded in tandem with bitcoin. This is affected by the large market capitalization of bitcoin and the associated percentage of its price dominance over altcoins. But altcoins are developing rapidly, and bitcoin has practically stood still for a relatively long time. Therefore, it will be absolutely logical that over time, bitcoin will lose its high capitalization, and along with it, price dominance over altcoins. If this trend continues for a long time, then the most promising altcoins may well take the current place of bitcoin.

Now bitcoin has dominance over altcoins because the market is bearish and investors' faith in many coins has been shaken very much. I am sure that a favorable situation in geopolitics and the global economy could improve the chances of altcoins to grow and dominate

The altcoin market is significantly impacted by bitcoin's price. However, because altcoins trade alongside bitcoin, this is not the case. The significant market capitalization of bitcoin and the corresponding percentage of its price dominance over alternative cryptocurrencies have an impact on this. But while bitcoin has essentially stagnated for a considerable amount of time, altcoins are evolving quickly. It follows that Bitcoin will logically lose its high capitalization over time, and along with it, its price dominance over altcoins.

I think given enough time yes it is a likely scenario that some globally used altcoin would over through the king from his throne.
How long that will take or which one will do it we don't really know.

Listen. I'm not a bitcoin maximalist but I think bitcoin is the undisputed king of all the coins being the premier coin. You can't beat the amount of faith coiners and even non-coiners have in it. No coin or taken has that effect or influence

Bitcoin has already maintained its control in the market, most of the cryptocurrency follows the value of bitcoin, bitcoin itself is complete bitcoin. Most of the investors believe in bitcoin only.

We cannot predict, but hope and wait for time to present us with the answers. With the continuous fall of bitcoin, and not rising up, we can think of well performing altcoins to come to the top. However, the massiveness that Bitcoin has achieved, with hundreds of well-established MNCs and individual celebrities buying it in tons, it is truly the King of all coins, and might be difficult for any altcoin to take its place.

Agreed, with senior opinions here
It's difficult to say will happen.
Because bitcoin is remaining the King of crypto currency and seems still strong to dominate.
But maybe at the coming years, we will see altcoin overtake bitcoin.

That’s not going to happen anytime soon. We can’t be sure of the future (in years or decades from now), and the chances of altcoins taking over Bitcoin are pretty bleak.

This was said to happen so that altcoins would seize power over bitcoin, but we must understand that the market is unpredictable and anything can happen.
