Yes I agree with you, for one to be addicted to something you must take time and due procedures to be able to quit or minimize it.
For gambling, if you notice that you're addicted to it and you're spending too much and getting very little in return and you really wants to stop it, then you can take different approaches to stop it, and one of the best approaches is always engaging your self on things that will add positive values to you, in your free time, limit your updates about betting, and things related to it.
With that I think you can be able to minimize or stop it , but time is required to do that, it is not just a day job...
