Ripple is a great competitor of Ethereum, in terms of coinmarketcap ranking, Ethereum and Ripple has been changing their ranking. On marketcapitalizing I think Ethereum has been consistent, but in crypto anything can happen, Ripple has the capacity in near future to turn the tide because they had being partnering with big organizations to boost the platform.
I think that the positions altcoins ranking whether by coinmarketcap ranking or marketcapitalizing (volume), is open to all coin/tokens now and in future.

Ripple should be prepared to beat USDT first then team should think of Ethereum because Ripple has lost its 3rd rank to the USDT in the recent past and now the difference is 6B which nearly 50%. If Ripple can recover this 50% difference and can recover 3rd rank then can be thought of Ethereum. But now its very difficult to defeat Ethereum by Ripple.

Yes, I see ripple must be prepared to be defeated by ethereum, But I happened, For now Ethereum bounces back at number second on CMC and ripple is still struggling now. USDT has overtook ripple for number three.

Ethereum has bounced back mate. I see ethereum is going strong now. Ethereum is still the king of smar contract platform and always be the top of altcoins. Ripple is number four now,. USDT has over took ripple. So, I don't believe ripple will beat ethereum for few years again.
