Title: Image uploading in forum
Post by: dkbit98 on April 19, 2024, 08:52:29 PM
Can you suggest what image uploading services are working best with AltcoinsTalks forum?
Imgbb, Imageshack or something else, and are there any restrictions?

I want to reduce the risk and avoid situation that happened with Imageshack not working in bitcointalk forum anymore, that made all images showing error messages.

I am using https://postimages.org/ for more than 2years in Bitcointalk as well as also in altcointalk, and what I feel about it, "it's good".
Currently I am using their software for adding images and screenshots and it's really time saver tools

Although imgur works here but to avoid getting error the same like in bitcointalk i used imbb imgbb instead, like always. As i faced error when using talkimg before probably because talkimg is only made for bitcointalk.

Imgur is still working fine on the Altcoinstalks forum. Here is one of the threads I created in the past about image layout using Imgur as image hosting.

I assume that the reason images from Imgur are not displayed/invalid images on Bitcointalk is that there is an automatic change to the image link implemented by the forum. (In addition, there are also updates to Imgur's ToS: https://help.imgur.com/hc/en-us/articles/14415587638029-Imgur-Terms-of-Service-Update (https://help.imgur.com/hc/en-us/articles/14415587638029-Imgur-Terms-of-Service-Update)).

For example, in Bitcointalk, when you open an image link by right-clicking open the image in a new tab on a post, the image link is changed (not an Imgur link anymore):

https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2FifZYkFr.png&t=661&c=3Q2GrOoO0moEQA (https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fi.imgur.com%2FifZYkFr.png&t=661&c=3Q2GrOoO0moEQA)

Meanwhile, in Altcoinstalks, there are no changes like the example above (the link is still from Imgur).

Not sure about the talkimg as I uses it here in altcoinstalk and everything seems to be fine on my end. And just the usual adjustment, like height and width. But in any case if I got errors uploading then my second option could be imgbb.

I use Imgur to upload images and embed those on this forum, and so far the site has been working for me. All the embeddings from Imgur work fine on Altcoinstalks.

I have seen that many users have used Talkimg images on this forum and those are also working here, but I haven't used Talkimg on this forum yet because for me Imgur is working.

I don't know whether joker_josue allows users from the Altcoinstalks forum to use TalkImg here, considering that the website https://www.talkimg.com/ clearly states this:

In the screenshot above, I used ImgBB.

And in the Terms of Service section (https://www.talkimg.com/page/tos), it is stated as follows:

2. Use of Images

Images uploaded to the TalkImg site can only be used on the Bitcointalk.com forum, except as previously agreed with a user for their images. All uploaded images must follow the same rules that the Bitcointalk.com forum applies to this subject.

So, we should respect the owner and not use it outside of Bitcointalk.com forum unless permitted.

Bitmover asked Joker_josue for the permission to use images uploaded on TalkImg on this forum and fortunately he allowed using of embeddings on this forum.

Thanks goes to Bitmover because he asked him at the right time, and I believe if someone wants to embed images uploaded on TalkImg should not worry at all because the owner allowed the users to do that.

This is absolutely true, I hope joker_josue will allow us to use TalkImg here on the forum because it is a very good service and it suits the Altcoin forum perfectly since the two forums are similar.

The TalkImg website is very wonderful and easy to use and does not have any problems. It also offers the feature of creating image BBcode in different sizes or in its original size.

I think I might ask joker_josue's permission to let us use TalkImg in the forum here, if I get approval I'll put it here.

Previously, I used Imgur frequently but it doesn't work with VPN (I use VPN to access Youtube and Twitter), TalkIMG is an alternative. Most of the images I've been using lately have been uploaded to TalkIMG and display well on the AltcoinsTalks forum, with no apparent issues. I hope that TalkIMG and AltcoinsTalks will not block this use case, as it is beneficial for both platforms to have more users.

Images related to price charts from TradingView can be easily linked from TradingView by pressing Alt + S and posted on AltcoinsTalks easily.

Whatever image uploading service I use I dont expect images to be there forever and I dont think altcoinstalks forum will have the same problems like bitcointalk forum.

Bitmover is asking permission for himself, or does it represent all Altcoinstalks users?

You can use the paid version of the image hosting service for more benefits.
Example: ImgBB Pro account, Imgur Emereald, or if it's on TalkImg, you might be able to donate and create an account there.

Isn't that the Take Snapshot shortcut in Tradingview (https://www.tradingview.com/charting-library-docs/v26/getting_started/Shortcuts/ (https://www.tradingview.com/charting-library-docs/v26/getting_started/Shortcuts/))?

Bitmover asked for the all members of the Altcoinstalks and joker_josue allowed it for everyone not only for Bitmover alone.

It represents all users here in Altcoinstalks.
The whole discussion of how they confirm this to joker_josue can be found here (https://www.altcoinstalks.com/index.php?topic=320202.msg1536785#msg1536785).

Thank you for bringing the matter to attention. Interestingly, or not, I also received a PM asking if they could use it on another forum (without specifying the forum).

In reality, it doesn't bother me that it is used in other forums, as long as they accept the rules that are imposed, based on Bitcointalk. It is true that the server is currently configured to be able to reject hotlinks from sites other than Bitcointalk. But, this never guarantees that it works 100%. It may work today and not tomorrow. But, according to the experience of several users, it has been used without problems in other places other than here on the forum.

If the Bitcointalk community doesn't oppose the idea, I won't oppose it either. And I will be able to reconfigure the server, to give greater freedom and guarantees in operating in other locations. What is your opinion?

You just have to keep in mind that regular backups are made, and there are users who make a copy of all images. The rules are those in this topic. And support will always be provided only here, and with priority for Bitcointalk. Furthermore, if you want to use it, donations are welcome to support the project so that it can continue.

One thing you can rest assured, I will not delete images that do not violate the rules, no matter where they are displayed.

@bitmover I have an account there, but for now I prefer not to go there and talk about the topic. You can share this post, as the subject will be discussed. Wink
It's a good thing he doesn't have any issues with using talkimg in this forum, there's just a reminder that we should not violate his rules to keep the images.

Bitmover asked for the all members of the Altcoinstalks and joker_josue allowed it for everyone not only for Bitmover alone.

I also asked joker_josue

Hello joker_josue
First of all, I would like to thank you again for this wonderful website and the great benefit you have provided to the forum

As you know, there are many members who have moved to another forum, and since we know that you designed this site for the BitcoinTalk forum, therefore, I would like to ask you, on behalf of the members who moved there, to allow us to use your TalkImg in the other forum.

Please let me know your response so I can put it out there
Thank you

This subject has actually been talked about in recent days. Check out how the debate on the topic has been going here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5450546.msg63922087#msg63922087

And here you will have a more specific answer:
The platform is open to the general public, but was designed to only work on Bitcointalk. What does that mean?

The server is configured with exclusive hotlinks for the forum image proxy. In other words, the image links should only work on the forum. Requests for access to the image from other websites may be blocked by the server, meaning the image will not be displayed.

This does not mean that the images will not be displayed on other sites/forums. But, I cannot guarantee that this will always happen. The system is automatic, and at any time a website can be blocked by the system and no longer be displayed.

In short, although it is discouraged, you can use the images in forums other than Bitcointalk, but I cannot guarantee how long these images will be visible in these other forums.

What I can guarantee is that I will carefully analyze the situation. ;)
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5450546.msg63973092#msg63973092

In short, everyone is allowed to use the site but he cannot guarantee how long these images will be visible in these other forums.

Yeah, he's a great person as he allowed everyone to use his site for uploading of images. He's an asset to the crypto community and we should always give him the respect that he deserves.

TalkIMG is allowed here for now, but I am not sure if this is long term solution for this forum.
Judging by the comments most people are still using imgur for uploading images, but I didn't see any recommendation from admin.

As far as I know, Admin does not specifically recommend Imgur or other image hosting. However, I once saw an Admin post that gave an example of adding images to posts and used Imgur as an example of image hosting.

upload your image somewhere and then put the direct link betweenlink :

example :
Code: [Select]

It is not only on TalkImg but also on other image hosting, especially the free version.

I recommend imgbb, even in the other forum I have used imgbb from my newbie days. When Imgur did their worse, I wasn't much affected. So, imgbb serves me right here.
