While you could make a lot of money, you could also lose everything. Furthermore, there is no guarantee that a cryptocurrency will remain operational in the long run. For example, only seven of the top ten cryptocurrencies by market value in 2013 are still operational today, with bitcoin remaining constant. That is why investing in cryptocurrency can be profitable in the future, only if one has knowledge about it, and knows how to accommodate to the changing market.

Both trading and investing require the trader to perform correct market analysis. Trading might be both short term or long term buying and selling, depending on the type of trading (intraday or swing). On the other hand, investment is a long term holding of the asset.
Both trading and investing requires the trader to have analysis of price charts and news.
Both investment and trading can be profitable methods if done correctly with proper strategy. The thing is, investment is good for people with full jobs who cannot afford to spend time in crypto daily, but can stay up to date with the current happenings. And trading is good for people who want to execute short-term, quick trades, to profit out of the market volatility.

POW and POS are two different types of consensus mechanisms used by cryptocurrencies. POW, or Proof of Work, is the most common type of consensus mechanism, and is used by Bitcoin.
