Title: Dark Mode Theme
Post by: xSkylarx on December 16, 2023, 08:36:29 AM
Please add or allow users to choose between light and dark mode when browsing in this forum. I always choose dark mode whenever it's possible since bright colored websites often strain my eyes if I've been looking at it for long hours.

I wanted to suggest this thing from yesterday. Forcing the night mode here makes the forum difficult to read, so it would be better if this feature was added, although I think I might write a userscript that would make things a little better, but let's see the administration's response.

Unfortunately, archiving the forum on Google is bad. I tried searching for darkmode topics on Google and the forum does not give many results. I  hope that increasing the number of users will make things better.

If you are impatient to wait for the admin upgrade, all browsers have the option to see every site in dark mode via the extension. It is often not the best solution, and the site will not be completely converted to dark mode, but it can certainly be useful.

for example:
Chrome: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/dark-mode/dmghijelimhndkbmpgbldicpogfkceaj?pli=1
Opera: https://addons.opera.com/en/extensions/details/dark-mode/
Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/darkreader/

I use every site in this world with dark mode except Bitcointalk. If I visit your website and you don't have an option to toggle between the light and dark mode, I will leave the site with immediate effect. I think this is applicable to many people as well. But the Bitcointalk forum made me comfortable with light mode because of the nature of the forum where there are no many shouty colours. At a time I used the browser extension suggested by Exemplens and it ended up straining my eyes. That's how I got used to the bitcointalk mode and with same mindset I joined this forum and totally forgot my dear dark mode.

Dark mode does prolong staring at the screen but not that helpful for me. There are other tools specifically made for this (check https://www.hongkiat.com/blog/tools-reduce-computer-eye-strain/)
My favorite on the list is F.Lux I just set it on Reduce Eyestrain mode and I never used/needed dark mode features since then. Brightness also auto adjust on day and night time.

Native dark theme or alternative color scheme would be a great addition for this forum, but there are already working alternatives like DarkReader extension, scripts or inverted colors in some browsers.

Another simple trick I used before was made by entering this text in your chrome/brave browser address bar:
chrome://flags/#enable-force-dark

Now everything will be dark for you on all websites, but you can use separate browser only for forum ;)

I tend to rarely use Chrome, Opera or Firefox because now I am comfortable using Tor Browser.
Yeps, after I learned Mixer Bitcoin, I often now use Tor Browser. Does Tor Browser have a dark mode as an Extension??

I have also long hoped that the main altcoinstalks website would use Dark Mode because it is more comfortable for me to use for hours.
But it seems like the admin hasn't had a response to this dark mode so until now there has been no update or addition of dark mode on Alcointalks.

You have a dark mode by default on the Tor browser.
Settings-> Extension & Themes (bottom left corner)-> themes. Find the one that suits you, you have several options on offer.

edit: I didn't really look for such an extension, but give it a try

I think that the admin has more serious responsibilities at the moment. At the same time, the implementation of the new colour scheme may require some more significant changes, and it is not a priority.

He asked for dark theme for forum, not for browser frame and menus, and you can't change that in Tor/Firefox settings  :)

I would not suggest adding additional extensions in Tor browser, but I know Firefox/Librewolf browser works good with Dark Reader extension, or with Tampermonkey extension and scripts for dark theme.

Thank you for providing useful information about Tor Browser, but unfortunately the Altcoinstalks website has not changed to Dark Theme. :)
It's okay that you have provided this information, I have tried it and it is quite good for all altcoinstalks members to try, while waiting for the admin to add the dark theme feature.
But I hope that the Altcoinstalks website will provide the best choices for themes, such as requests from various members to add a "Dark Theme" feature to the Altcoinstalks website.

Personally, I don't like this kind of solutions.

I think it is much better to reduce  blue light by using windows Night Light, or some app like f.lux
https://justgetflux.com/
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/set-your-display-for-night-time-in-windows-18fe903a-e0a1-8326-4c68-fd23d7aaf136

They will make the monitor color a little warmer, more confortable and wont ruin the design
