Some rules for the moderation?
« on: September 11, 2019, 09:51:50 PM »
Hi,
On June 10 I opened this thread How about gold-backed Stablecoins?
I posted it in the Section „Stable Coins Forum“, because Stablecoins are not only coins „backed by an exact amount of USD“, but all cryptocurrencies which are designed to keep their value stable.
I thought, it would be an enrichment for the Section „Stable Coins Forum“ if also gold-backed Stable Coins get discussed there.

On Juni 30 the thread was moved by some Moderator in the "Advertise Your Stuff" Section.
I didn’t get any notification.
The Moderator didn't deem necessary to inform me about the reason of his/her decision.
I suddenly saw my thread disappeared and had to search by myself, if the thread still existed and where it was.

Now I just discovered that the same thread has been moved in the "Trash" Section.
Again, no notification.
Again, the Moderator didn't deem necessary to inform me about the reason of his/her decision.
For the second time, I had to search by myself, if the thread still existed and where it was.
I feel like someone is playing with me.

To be honest, I find this behaviour extremely disrespectful, almost humiliating.
Considering also the fact that negative karmas can be given anonymously, I can see how unpleasant it can get for a forum member if some Moderator, for whatever reason, start targeting him/her.
This could escalate to the point of forum members getting wary of even contradicting Moderators within the forum discussions.

Can’t we create some rules specific for the moderation?
Something like this:
1) When a Moderator move, or change the content of, a post/thread, he/she has to notify the post/thread's author, mentioning the reason of his/her decision.
2) When a Moderator punish a forum member in whatever form, he/she has to notify said forum member, mentioning the reason of the punishment, and pointing to the rule allegedly broken.

I skimmed your thread but I can't comment on why it's been moved then eventually trashed since it's been edited.

1) When a Moderator move, or change the content of, a post/thread, he/she has to notify the post/thread's author, mentioning the reason of his/her decision.
I don't think notifying thread creators is necessary. They should be mindful of where they post and what they post. Most of the time, some newly created accounts just come here and spam the forum and never to return again.

2) When a Moderator punish a forum member in whatever form, he/she has to notify said forum member, mentioning the reason of the punishment, and pointing to the rule allegedly broken.
I also don't think this is necessary but from what I read, moderators are already doing this to some spammers and plagiarists.

Topic restored.

When deleting topics, we try to explain to the topic author the reason for the removal. But this is not a mandatory rule.

this is with no doubt an advertising or shilling-style post
if i were you, i would post it in altcoins discussions section, as it is not a discussion about an idea but rather about a specific project

advertise your stuff is an appropriate section as well.

concerning moving the topics, mods have no obligation to send a message to user about the move
your topics will always be seen from your profile page, no matter where they are.
"Show replies to my posts" also can be helpful if the mods replied to your topic explaining why it was moved.

i do oppose however the moves to trash, and i have advised moderators against moving topics to trash with a really valid reason /like actual non crypto spam.
At your service.

@Admin,
thanks for getting involved.

„this is with no doubt an advertising or shilling-style post“
Thanks for insulting me, Admin.
That's a great way to start a comment. Don't address the issue, insult the user.
Let's hope everybody will take you as an example. That will enhance for sure the forum quality.

There are currently ca. 700 open topics in your forum.
Do you really think that I need to open a new topic in this forum section, in order to advertise?

„ it is not a discussion about an idea but rather about a specific project“
The two rules which I subjected to a poll, and which this topic is dedicated to, have nothing to do with a specific project, Admin.
The subject of this topic is the forum moderation style.
I mentioned my thread just in order to explain the reason why I opened this topic.

„concerning moving the topics, mods have no obligation to send a message to user about the move“
I know, but I’m sure you allow forum members to disagree and make suggestions.
That's what this topic is all about.
Suggestions.
And now I'm going to explain what are, in my view, the reasons for those suggestions.

In real life, everytime some institution, be it the police, the public administration, even your boss at your work place, everytime they take some action against you, they notify you.
Did you ever wandered why?
It's called respect.

Not only they notify you about their action, but they point you to the rule their decision is based on.
This has something to do with a basic principle of law that the Romans called Nulla poena sine lege.
Authorities do so because they have to justify their actions in front of you.
This is another basic form of respect for you.

Where authorities don’t need to justify their actions, the door is open for arbitrariness. It’s hell.
We discuss in this forum about cryptocurrencies, blockchains, mining, exchanges, anonymity, Monero, Libra, protocols, e-wallets … I mean, what’s the point of all this crap if we forget the basics of civil society.

There is another reason why in real life authorities notify you when they take decisions which affect you directly.
It’s called taking responsibility.
Notifying you about his decision, that person takes responsibility for it.
He puts his face on it.
When those having authority can exercise it on you anonymously, when they can play with you while staying in the dark, good luck.

That said, your forum, your rules.
After all, you are the boss here, and I’m just a shill,
and this is no doubt advertisement

Tänan Bigpat! (or aitäh. You mother language is driving me crazy  :) )
You big gentleman you

I see that mentioning my thread, I’ve convinced everybody that moving it back was the reason of this thread.
Again, the point of this thread is talking about moderation rules, not about my thread.
Where my thread was moved (and re-moved), is not important.
How that happened, that's what I'm talking about.

I skimmed your thread but I can't comment on why it's been moved then eventually trashed since it's been edited.

1) When a Moderator move, or change the content of, a post/thread, he/she has to notify the post/thread's author, mentioning the reason of his/her decision.

Fair enough Zed,
we disagree, no problem.
Actually, partly I understand your points. They make sense.

I’m not a moderator, so you know for sure better than me the practical difficulties of managing such a big forum.
I’d just like to know what other users think, because until now the only people expressing their opinion here have been mods and the Forum Administrator.

This adventure shouldn’t be seen as an attack to the moderators, as depicting them, or some of them, as bad people.
This thread is about moderation rules, not about the moderators as persons.
Suggesting those two rules, I’m not saying that the mods are bad people.
In fact, up until now I had contacts with dragononcrypto, mnixxo and Bigpat, and only BigPat gave me headaches :D

This forum has already a lot of posting rules. Why not to talk about moderation rules.
Hell, next time I could even open a thread about administration rules.
(just kidding)

When you complain about deleting a topic, it would be good to give a link to that topic, so everyone could see, if there is any problem with it. Most deleted topics are just spam or off-topic. ???
