Bitmain Reveals S21 Pro Bitcoin Miner: Pioneering 15 Joules per Terahash

On Friday, the producer of bitcoin-specific application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) mining equipment, Bitmain, unveiled the latest Antminer S21 Pro model during the World Digital Mining Summit (WDMS). This new device features a hashrate of approximately 234 terahash per second... See more for yourself here (https://news.bitcoin.com/bitmain-reveals-s21-pro-bitcoin-miner-pioneering-15-joules-per-terahash/).

Your opinion is greatly appreciated.

Your opinion is greatly appreciated.

The honest opinion is not civilized enough to be posted.

Basically Bitmain screwed us once again, the halving is near, they have just dumped the s2 on the market to effectively kill all s19 under 4 cents per kwh and now they release the ultra which is 15% th/s more than the standard s21 at same power drawn.
So by rushing to get a better foothold and be ready with new gear for the onslaught the halving will bring you just purchased expensive gear that might be obsolete in under 2 years.

If the price goes back to 50k there will be a lot of bankruptcies, I can't imagine how does it feel now to purchase 50k s21 delivered to the end of 2024 and to see this one getting released in june 6 months earlier than your delivery.

This is noticeable efficiency jump compared with S21. S21 has about 17.4 J/TH while S21 Pro has about 15J/TH, which is about 16% more energy efficient. On top of that, the coupon also makes S21 Pro cheaper ($4422 vs $5400) while also offer more hashrate. So i agree Bitmain screw with miner again.

Now imagine how this feels for Riot..

Quote
The buy of MicroBT M66S model machines for $290.5 million is the largest hash rate purchase in Riot’s history, Riot CEO Jason Les said in a statement Monday. It amounts to approximately 18 EH/s of mining capacity. The company had secured the option to buy an additional 66,560 machines before the end of 2024. It chose to do so Monday, and it also updated the agreement to include the option to purchase up to 265,000 more MicroBT miners on the same terms as the new order.

Their M66S are at 19j/th!
They could have competed with the s21 basic version but with the s19 pro now way.
Incoming halving, nearly 30% consumption compared to somebody that buys this and pays the same sum, this considering coupons and not large MOQ deals, whatsminer needs to either go cheap or launch something new, and if they do so too everyone with an s19 or older can say goodbye and recycle it.

234Th/s and a price of $5,549.00 is a strong blow for S21 and the time was well chosen, especially with the increase in the price of Bitcoin, so Whatsminer should offer something cheaper than $8,000 before next Q3/4.
The problem is that the closest competitors offer 150Th/s - 170Th/s at a price between $4000 and $5000, so improving efficiency will be necessary.
