XRPL Labs, a startup that is already backed by Ripple, wants to make the process of accepting XRP easier for merchants as a mainstream option. To make this goal into a reality, the company has designed a payments app that will act as the transition that they need as a point-of-sale system.
There is already a prototype of this system running, though the actual testing is not scheduled until a meetup in The Netherlands. Right now, the title of the project is XRPay, though there is likely to be some modifications upon the actual release, avoiding any conflict or confusion with the competing platform
The founder of XRPL Labs, Wietse Wind, states that the intention is to allow the app to work on both Google Play and the App Store when it is ready for the full launch.
Xpring, the development and fundraising arm of Ripple, was recently a backer for the XRPL Labs work. The amount has not been released, though it was made in XRP and will ultimately push forward the work of the company for up to three years.
