Facebook created a lof of buzz when they announced they're planing to move to blockchain. There were also a lot of reports that're planning to launch their own cryptocurrency. Then I just read this news (https://www.altcoinstalks.com/index.php?topic=107322.0). It appears that VK (a Russian social media platform) has beaten facebook.
With the launching of a mainstream social media internal coin, I expect more people (from their userbase) to become more curious about cryptocurrencies.
What do you guys make of this?
How do you think this will affect the existing social media platforms based on blockchain such as Steemit and IFT

For a strart, I think these big companies are years behind the crypto space, so it will take some years to develop properly in my opinion. Also as far as I understand, FB will follow the likes of JPM with releasing a stable coin, so I'm not sure of the long-term relevance of this, as stable coins can't compete with Bitcoin's decreasing rate of inflation. It will overall help to legitimize cryptocurrency I believe, but don't think it'll threaten decentralized revenue sharing models like Steemit.

I have participated, in some new projects. To keep rewards, there is a lot of competition. Most platforms, rely in the number of posts, to calculate rewards. This is a disaster, as the participants, post anything, so you cannot find something interesting, in the feed, as it is full of nonsense.

Good!
I agree that VK defeated FB because everyone knows that FB is still rigid and old-fashioned against the system that was developed (not implementing cooperation with cryptocurrency) so I make sure FB will lose a lot of trust.
If a platform loses trust, I make sure that the Platform will experience a decrease in funds.

Actually if indeed facebook do it then more awareness will be grasp by the users who actually confuse on how cryptocurrency work. It will help and some will disagree with it. Well we actually dont know yet what will be the effect but knowing Mark, he will not pursue it. Only creating buzz and rumors.

It is quite obvious that soon all social networks, instant messengers and similar platforms will integrate blockchain technology and create their own coins. This will take social networks to a new level and give users more options.

it is a smart move. everybody is trying to move into the blockchain. it is nolonger news that top business moguls and top investment companies are now accepting the blockchain technology. am sorry for those that are missing out. they may not have the opportunity again.

Mainstream social media platforms integrating blockchain and introducing their internal currency may hinder the adoption of Steemit or IFT. It may take VK more time to catch up to the technology but their user base is already there and they may not find any need to try others.

this would be great if a lot of social media uses blockchain technology, and this will improve the advancement of social media technology in the future
